New to Armour and having major low blood sugar

Anyone else have this problem? I am hypoglycemic and I control it with diet. I had no additional problems with my blood sugar when I was on Synthroid for 7 months. I started having other issues with the synthroid and my doctor switched me to Armour thyroid a few weeks ago. I started on just 1/4 grain and noticed my blood sugar dropping through out the day a little more than normal and I would awake in the morning with feeling lower than normal too. This week she increased me to 1/2 grain and it made me have heart palpations, feel shaky and caused my blood sugar to really drop. I could barely make it through the hour after taking Armour before I could eat and then when I did I would have to have large amounts of sugars to make me feel okay. That is not normal for me.

I saw my doctor again yesterday and she told me to go back to 1/4 grain and stay there for 6-8 weeks to see how I feel and do blood work. In the meantime, she told me to get glucose tabs so I will have them if I continue to drop really low. She said that it may take my body awhile to get used to the Armour.

I did see on Armour's website that it can aggravate diabetes. I am assuming the same is true for hypoglycemia. Are my symptoms going to go away after a while? I am concerned that these major blood sugar drops may do permanent damage to my endocrine system.

Does anyone out there on Armour have a blood sugar issue or know someone that does? Are they able to tolerate Armour given time?

My doctor said if I wake up low I can take Armour with food right away if I have to or I can eat upon waking and wait an hour and then take it. I have read that it is absorbed best on an empty stomach so I am unsure if I should try this.

I just don't know what to do. I would appreciate any advice you can give me.

Re: New to Armour and having major low blood sugar

So sorry to hear of your difficulties.

One of my best thyroid buds has hypoglycemia and takes Armour.

She has had wonderful results by taking metformin to regulate her blood sugar. (yes, that's normally a drug prescribed for diabetics but, she researched extensively and found that it's also good for hypoglycemia)
