Red Blotches

I am currently on 50mcg of Tirosint and a compounded T3 capsule for hypothyroidism. In the past month or so I have had this rash or areas of blotching on my neck and chest and I was wondering if it is related to thyroid function? It almost looks like an uneven sunburn? I have pics but don't know if we can post them here.....

Re: Red Blotches

Hi there,

I'm sorry you're dealing with this. How are your latest labs, any news there.

I'm not sure, it can be related to several things so always a good thing to check it out with your doctor. In case the question is whether it can be thyroid related. now and then I do have some thyroid related hives and before I received treatment, I occasionally used to have something which appeared like some sunallergy on my chest (with the difference that it occurred without exposure to the sun). Anyway skinrashes can be caused by several things, so I would not assume thyroid and have it checked out by your doctor.

Re: Red Blotches

Do you have a lot of pain, especially at the sites of your lymph nodes? Have you had chicken pox as a child? My mom recently had a painful, mysterious rash and it turned out to be shingles. They are talking about it a lot on television now, trying to bring about awareness, since the rash doesn't always present itself in blisters but can sometimes be red blotches.

Re: Red Blotches

Hello ZuZu -

I too developed a red blotchy appearance to my skin on my back and arms. This odd appearing "symptom" started at the same time as me becoming sick -with what we now know is hypoT & Hashitoxicosis.

I had many tests trying to figure it out - to no avail. I don't know if it is thyroid related or not either?! But I think there is some connection because of the timing. And it has slightly improved as my Frees are slowly coming up.

Just thought I'd share I would talk with your doctor to look at other causes.

Good luck.

Re: Red Blotches

I started thyroid meds last October. Several months later, I too noticed that my neck and chest looked sunburned. I told my ARNP, naturopath, and my D.O. about it. None of them knows what it is but, all agree it probably has something to do with my hypoT, since I've never had it before. It doesn't itch and it really doesn't bother me. It's just there.

I did a Google search on "neck rash hypothyroid" and found a few different hypoT forums where a handful of members talk about a similar neck rash. No one seems to know what it's about or what causes it.

I know this doesn't answer your question but, I at least wanted to let you know that you're not alone.

Thyroid Disease SUCKS !
