Newly diagnosed hypothyroid

Last week I was seen by my regular physician because I was feeling simply exhausted. I have Crohn's disease and she was feeling like possibly my anemia had returned. She ordered many panels of blood work and called me a few days later to say that my TSH level was 18.75. I was started on a dose of Levothroid 50mcg which I have been taking since June 28th. I haven't noticed any effects as of yet but understand that it typically takes 4-6 weeks to start working. My doc has me scheduled to come in after 6 weeks on the medication to do a blood test and check my levels. What can I expect after the med starts working? I have brittle dry hair, dry skin, I am about 20 lbs overweight and am exhausted...can I expect these things to improve after taking the meds for a while? My pharmacist made sure I know how to correctly take the meds and what to avoid but if anyone else has any advice it would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Newly diagnosed hypothyroid

I think that your symptoms should improve...Although lots of people complain of feeling worse before better sometimes.Hopefully your doctor will raise your dose if you are still feeling bad when it is time to retest. Some just go by the test results, but a good doctor will go by how you are feeling.
