thyroid and high cholesterol
My cholesterol at the point of being diagnosed with underactive thyroid was 8!! I've been on Levo for six weeks and it's reduced to 7.8, not great but in the right direction. Question is, do you think they'll keep upping my dose of levo until the cholesterol goes down, I'm currently on 25mcg going back to docs today for 6 week check. I'm not keen on statins as I've been told of the terrible side affects.

Is there anyone out there with a similar problem? I'm concerned I'll end up with a stroke if my cholesterol doesn't go down. By the way, my diet is good so it's thyroid related nothing else!!

Re: thyroid and high cholesterol
I'm not familiar at all with the reference intervals or norms for cholesterol testing in the UK. But I can tell you that my LDL cholesterol dropped by 17%, from high to within normal range, after I was optimally treated for low thyroid and without any other lifestyle changes. It can take a few months to happen, but it should eventually.

Low thyroid is the second leading cause of elevated cholesterol after poor diet.
