Bloated with hypothyroidism

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidsm 2.5 years ago. Along the long list of symptoms was one that made my doctor give me a pregnancy test - I looked like I was six months pregnant. I wasn't pregnant, I was bloated. My blood work came back and the result was 256 - and so my doc put me on levothyroxine. The problem with bloating never completely went away, plus it's been a huge struggle to loose a sinlge pound, but overall once I started taking the meds, I felt great.

Lately, however, the bloating is getting out of control again and I'm gaining weight even though I'm gluten-free and really watch what I eat. My labs came back normal, so I'm wondering if maybe I should consider switching to a brand name, such as Levoxyl?

Anyone else experienced similar issues? Please help!!

Thank you!

Re: Bloated with hypothyroidism

Hopefully your labs consist of TSH, Ft4 and Ft3. You want to focus on the Frees because they are the actual circulating thyroid hormones.

I am a bit hypothyroid now also my stomach is quite bloated. Your Ft4 and Ft3 should be in the upper 1/3 of their ranges.

Re: Bloated with hypothyroidism

Have you been eating a lot of gluten substitutes? It may not be the main source of the problem, but cutting back on things like gluten free bread and such might help, as they tend to have more calories and less fiber than wheat bread. It might be helpful to do some kind of elimination diet to see if there's something you're eating that's contributing.
