Enlarged thyroid and lump on neck ... Any advice please?

hi i am so happy to find this forum i have nobody to speak to about what im going through and its nice to relate to others in similar conditions.

I am having a ultrasound on my thyroid on thursday and couldnt be more worried!
I had a biopsy a month ago but wasnt able to get results until after my scan.
I just wanted help trying to figure out what is wrong with me while i wait.

I have had a sore throat and difficulty swalloing for a year now and have been ignored and diagnosed with acid reflux at one point but since finding a lump im finally getting help i need.
My thyroid is physically very swollen and looks more swollen on the left. I have also a moveable lump above adams apple. This lump is rather big approx 3cms and my docter looked very worried, the ent docter stated it was fluid when he done the biopsy. Although i havnt had results. He did also state the lump is on my cartridge so he assumes, and i did have a camera down up my noise down my throat (not pleasant!)

My symptons are: weight gain, weak numb arms and lower legs, sometimes nausua after eating, pain in middle of forehead, dizzyness, exhaustion after alot of sleep, raspy voice, pain in neck, hard to swallow, pains in middle of chest and hearing loss in one ear a week after treating a ear infection, constantly feeling cold.

If anyone has similiar problems please reply any advice would be great, I am only 24 with 3 young children and im very worried.

    Hi,

When I was 14 I had a thyroid tumor and it wasnt cancer Over the years it became inlarged and then the 2nd thyroid gland followed the same attern. I too have this lump and neck pain on my cartlidge on the left side of my neck, none of my doctors hane any idea what it might be. It's very close to a main artery they dont want to do a biopsy, I've seen many specialist.

Since we have 2 throid glands try and not to worry....I know it's scary. My doc first said I had cancer and that was before doing a biospy! Which acourse it turned out that I didnt.

Please keep us posted, for me it was the first sign of my endcorine disease that the doctors didnt find till 30 years later and they are still looking and doing tests. If you still feel porly after they fix this problem PLEASE fight hard to ding out wha is causing your other issues and follow your gut. There are good doctors out there but many bad ones too.

Because they wouldnt listen to me, well it's to late but your young and the thyroid can cause a lot of issues.

    Good luck
    Cheri

Did you get help for this. I had thyroid problems( still do ) and have some suggestions but if you are on your way to treatment and are happy with descisions I do not want to go into lengthy detail. E

Thankyou so much for your replies.
Cher45, thankyou for sharing your experiance, did you have to have surgery for your tumour to be removed? And im so happy how your condition was similiar and non cancerous which eases the mind
msdds1, i am going for a ultrasound this week, iv had a biopsy and blood tests. Apparently my blood tests came back normal. Any advice will be great the docters have refused to give me any treatment to help the swelling until they know what it is.

My advice is get copies of all your labs and don't be afraid to quote them here. Also your doctors likely still working down the list of things to check, and so they don't yet have any definitive answers for you.

The good news is, a fluid filled nodule is likely a cyst and non-cancerous. Even if it is cancer, thyroid cancer is Best Cancer you won't die from it. Likely the worst would be they have to take out your thyroid and you'd have to take meds forever after. (lots and lots of people are walking around with no thyroid)

I think the outcomes you're facing are

Maybe you need thyroid meds to increase your thyroid hormone levels, maybe not.

    1) They take out your thyroid and you go on thyroid meds.
    2) They remove half your thyroid.
    3) They drain your cyst.
    4) Put you on meds and monitor your cyst and hope it resolves by itself.

I am a Thyroid patient for at least 8 years. When it was Hypo, it swelled. I have a long story but basically after botched doctors diagnosis ( told me I had GRD) cause i thought my throat felt thighs, and other goodies, I am now Hypo.
I did treat it with conventional and Eastern Medicine. I have been on a Pig Thyroid pill for years now ( much like Armour), and compounded T3.
If anyone wants to ask me questions they can do so. I would be more than happy to share.
