Question Grandma has trouble tolerating Sensipar

My grandma takes Sensipar for her parathyroid. At her age (90), she's not a good candidate for surgery. She is supposed to be working up to taking 30mg each day, but she is still at 1 pill every 3 days because she doesn't tolerate the medicine well. She said she loses her appetite and just feels sluggish/sleepy. I think some of it is in her mind since she has mild dementia. But, she will always complain about this and keeps going back to every 3 days, which her doctor said is not enough to help her. IDK much about this medicine - just that she has trouble with regulating calcium levels. Is there any way she could better tolerate this medicine, or an alternative treatment? She goes to a specialist so I trust he knows what he's talking about w/Sensipar. I told, her, though that she should call him and ask, but my mom says that he'll just insist that she keep it up. I think she would get used to it better if she tried it every day as she is supposed to be doing by now. She will even complain that it affects her badly the next day, which I don't think is possible. I don't believe it's extended release. Can she break them in two and take 1/2 at night, 1/2 in the morning? She does take a lot of medicines. Any tips? This is driving my mother crazy, and in turn, driving me crazy. Grandma will not listen to either of us on anything, but maybe if I said I got it from a medical forum, she may! Thanks.
