High TSH optimal ft3 and ft4

    Hello,

    Age 21

    02/09/13

    TSH: 2.130 uUI/ml (0.450-4.500)
    ft4: 1.46 ng/dl (0.82-1.77)
    ft3: 3.6 pg/ml (2.0-4.4)
    rt3: didn't test

    04/02/13

    TSH: 3.910
    ft4: 1.42 ng/dl (0.82-1.77)
    ft3: Didn't test
    rt3: 19.20 ng/dl (9.2 - 24.10)

Why is TSH elevated when ft3 and ft4 seem optimal??? Is it possible that I need even higher levels to not feel like ****? Most of these symptoms I have felt for a long time.

This is confusing. Any help would be appreciated.

    [ ] I am gaining weight inappropriately
    [ ] I feel fatigued, exhausted
[ ] Feeling run down, sluggish, lethargic
[ ] My hair is coarse and dry, breaking, brittle, falling out
[ ] My skin is coarse, dry, scaly, and thick
    [ ] I have a hoarse or gravely voice
[ ] I have puffiness and swelling around the eyes and face
[ ] I have pains, aches in joints, hands and feet
    [ ] I feel depressed
    [ ] I feel restless
[ ] My moods change easily
    [ ] I have feelings of worthlessness
    [ ] I have difficulty concentrating
[ ] I have more feelings of sadness
[ ] I seem to be losing interest in normal daily activities
    [ ] I'm more forgetful lately
    [ ] I can't seem to remember things
    [ ] I have no sex drive
[ ] I feel shortness of breath and tightness in the chest
[ ] I feel the need to yawn to get oxygen
[ ] My eyes feel gritty and dry
[ ] My eyes feel sensitive to light
[ ] My eyes get jumpy/tics in eyes, which makes me dizzy/vertigo and have headaches
[ ] I have strange feelings in neck or throat
[ ] I have tinnitus (ringing in ears)
    [ ] I have vertigo
    [ ] I feel some lightheadedness

Welcome to the board although I'm sorry for the reason you're here.

    1) there is no telling whether your FT3 is optimal since it has not been tested.
    2) your FT4 looks good
    3) TSH might fluctuate during the day. did you have your labs done before or after intake of the medication? if so that can be misleading and falsely make FT4 look good. Your TSH is still high for a treated hypoT so it's good to keep an eye on things to see whether FT4 will be falling or TSH still needed time to drop. How long are you on your current dosage? how much are you taking?

    Hang in there

Thank you very much for the reply.

I apologize for not being more clear. I am not taking any medication.

The ft3 was tested on 2/9/13. It did not get retested on 4/2/13 though.
