thyroid blood wk normal but 6cm nodule Help

Hi. Having large weight gain, smell something burning all the time, headache, fatigue, throat pain, skin crawling, hot flashes, cold chills and joint pain. All thyroid blood wk normal, but found a 6cm nodule on my thyroid. I just feel ill all over. Should I be worried? Im itching and its hard to swallow. Going to endo. Why would my blood wk be normal also?? Thanks

Your blood work probably isn't so "normal". Doctors misinterpret it more than you'd ever dream possible. I suggest you get a printed copy of the results and post them along with their lab ranges here for us to help you decipher before you see the endo.

Besides that, though, if you have a 6 cm nodule, that should be your primary interest right now.

I will get them for sure. My first concern is the nodule with my symptoms. Thank you so very much.

You need to see a surgeon (ENT/neck surgeon/thyroid specialist) if this mass is really 6cm--I'm surprised you don't have constriction/neck discomfort symptoms. That is either a large mass, or a large "goiter" (an enlarged goiter). It's growing out of control. A normal thyroid lobe (you have two) is about 3-4cm.

Ok thyroid isthmus 3mm. Rt lobe 1.1x4.2x1.2 cm. Left lobe measure 1.4x4.2x1.1cm. Within the midportion the left lobe there is anechoic structure with through transmission which measures up to 6mm. At the inferior extent there is focal calcification.

Why is this giving me so many symptoms. Now Im out of breath upon exerting myself. Waiting for endo appt.

Okay... You've now typed a size of "6 mm" for the nodule. You previously wrote "6 cm".
A 6 mm (millimeter) nodule is not a worry. But a 6 cm (centimeter) nodule would need to be removed. Big difference.

Nodules also don't cause most of the kinds of symptoms you're describing. Tiredness, itching, weight gain, etc. would be connected with inadequate (or excessive) blood levels of thyroid hormone, which have nothing to do with nodules.

Again... Be sure to let us know those blood levels (with their ranges) when you get them.

Re: thyroid blood wk normal but 6cm nodule Help

    Hello Lilymae,

I have a 3cm complex mass on my thyroid and was found to be hypothyroid 2 months ago. Before starting 25 mcg of Levothyroxin, I also was very short of breath, light headed and felt terrible muscle weakness. The med has helped with those symptoms, but I still have other ones. I hope you find the answers with your appt.
