    Meds and coffee

    Hello
I am just very curious how many of you that have to wait to eat or drink anything for 1/2 hour to an hour after taking thyroid meds actually do? I have been taking my synthroid with coffee for years thinking the meds would be adjusted accordingly.
    Thanks

Guilty on the coffee! Without it I wouldn't be able top find my thyroid med But if you look into the actual guideline from the ATF and AACE, it's specifically espresso coffee that's advised against. The coffee I make isn't that high test. I do wait at least an hour before eating.

    Re: Meds and coffee

I just started taking Levo for almost 2 months ago now. And I set the alarm for 5 am, wake up and take a pill. Then fall sleep for another hour and can get up to have coffee. I just need a cup right away when getting up, there's just no way I can wait even 30 minutes.

I've read though that some people eat and drink with their meds and it's no problem.

The problem with waking up to take your pill then going back to sleep is that it affects your sleep pattern. I used to do that but I was still exhausted.

I now just take my pill with water in the morning. Once I've showered and dressed, I then eat.

Some of you might find it easier to take your pill before bed.

Taking a pill at bedtime might work as long as you haven't eaten anything within the last 2-4 hours. It can take food that long to clear your upper digestive tract where most of the med is absorbed.
