    Low T3 - Please help me interpret my labs!

    Hi! I'm new to this hypothyroid group.

    My symptoms are: Hirsutism, cystic acne (face and back), major hair loss, weight gain/trouble losing weight, fibroids, afternoon fatigue, pms, constipation, cold hands/feet, High DHEA!, Low T3, Low D. I have had Rheumatoid Arthritis since 2005.

    Just last week, my rheumatologist put me on 5mcg of cytomel a day until I can get to an endocrinologist for my low T3.

    Labs in December:
    TSH= 1.21 (.4-4.5)
    T4 free= 1.4 (.8-1.8)
    T3 Total= 66 L (76-181)
    thyroglobulin antibodies= 1
    thyroid peroxidase antibodies= 1

    I have only been on Cytomel 1 week. I feel more energy. I have had a little weight loss. But I have had more hair loss! I have to stop it today as I have too much hair loss. What are your thoughts on my labs? My low T3? I also have rheumatoid arthritis and pcos symptoms, fyi. What could be causing this? What is the solution? Thanks in advance!

    Re: Low T3 - Please help me interpret my labs!

    Hair loss is most likely from a testosterone issue and not the T3. Issues of PCOS and the high DHEA will lead to all sorts of problems. You probably have high DHT levels which leads to hair shed.

    The T3 should actually increase your SHBG (sex hormone binding globulin) and reduce some of the circulating testosterone.

    You really need to find a good endocrinologist.
