Unhappy Do partial dentures for 2 teeth cause TMJ disorder? Or my dentist is ripping me off?

    Hi,
I am missing 2 teeth (upper and lower 1st premolars from left side of my mouth)
I lost them like a month ago, as I am fairly very very busy for the next 6 months so I am looking for something temporary as of now, what would be my best option?
Partials? I also want to know do partials cause or enhance TMJ disorder of any sort?
I DO NOT have any history of any such problem (and my bite is fine, previous dentist said so) and I DO NOT grind my teeth at all.
If I do not already have TMJD and grinding problems, then partials for just 2 teeth would be a fine temporary option for me, right?
And if the partials are correctly made and aligned, then it is very unlikely that I will develop TMJD at all, almost nil chances there!
So should I get partials for these 2 teeth before getting implants after 6 months?
    PLEASE suggest me something, PLEASE!
I am 21 year old girl, turning 22 this November!

I want something temporary so that I can get used to having a fake tooth in my mouth!
I take good care of my teeth, my other 26 teeth are in absolute fine condition and I actually lost those 2 teeth due to accident, not because of any disease.. SO WHY WOULD PARTIALS EVEN CAUSE ANYTHING IN ME WHEN I NEED THEM FOR ONLY 6-7 months?

    What do I do?
    I am lost!

    Hi,
I have read your posting several times in an effort to offer any advice.
As best as I can determine you are saying you have lost your opposing bicuspids, #12 and #21 which are on you left side.
A question that first comes to mind is what is going on with the health of your teeth that would cause you to lose your teeth in the first place? That needs to be a consideration to your dentist. Having said that, I think you are right to seek a second opinion to a temporary first step to test the proper position and approach. Implants are considered when you have no healthy roots to attach a crown to and are a permanent change.
I believe your dentist may have a concern that without front guidance in this area, your bite could start to change and cause problems. That may be warranted, so I would not put off attending to some, at least temporary, solution in the near future.
Best I can offer, is to trust your instincts. There are many different dental philosophies at there.

Thank you so much for both of you for replying!
Actually I lost my teeth in an accident a month ago, X-Ray revealed that my nearby teeth are fine and in absolute great condition, as I heard that nearby teeth shift if you do nothing about the gap, so I was worried (I actually have a dental phobia/anxiety)
I asked my actual attending dentist what to do? He told me to get removable partials for the time being and think about implant/bridge in a few months or so. I was happy!
But still I just messaged this 'neuromuscular dentist' for a second opinion (dumb on my part to do so) he was so enthusiastic when I said I am thinking of having implants, he said all the nice things about implants etc etc, then when I asked him if I can wait like like 6-7 months for implants and get partials so the space is maintained? He immediately got disappointed and said and I quote 'Grinding on partials can cause TMJD' I said that I do not grind my teeth, he said "Still get the implants from us, we rae the best, don't get temporaries', I was so horrified by the way he replied, I asked other neuromuscular/craniofcaial/tmj specialists, they said partials are a good option if you are conssidering something temporarily, that way you can even used to having artificial teeth in your mouth and partials DO NOT cause TMJD, no worries there!

When I confronted 'that' dentist that how can he mis-lead me like this when he hasn't even seen me, my X-Rays/OPG and gave me such an outright answer through just ONLINE CHAT, he got angry. Wow, I got right away that he was lying to begin with so that he can make some money through implants! Sheesh >.

I am now getting RPDs for a few months from my old dentist and getting bridges next year!
The thing is all this has traumatized me alot, I am having dental anxiety and I am wondering if I am ever gonna get used to having fake teeth in my mouth!

. I your case I think dental anxiety was a good thing.
Just your common sense telling you to watch out. It sounds like you are on a good path. If the fit of the crowns, partials or implants are correct, it should not cause you any problem. It makes sense to get tempories first to make sure the fit is correct before making a permanent change.
    Good luck.

As someone who has had two teeth pulled I feel I can offer an opinion. I thought long and hard about what to fill the space with. I finally decided on implants because they feel like natural teeth and all you have to do is brush them. With any type of denture you are felling it in your mouth all the time and you need to soak them in Polident or similar to keep them from getting smelly and yuck. Implants are actually very quick and easy, expensive but quick and easy. My dental surgeon had the two holes drilled and screw in place in under 30 minutes and it never bothered me all. It only bleeds a little. The easier procedure I ever had done in a dentists office. I still have to get the actual teeth made and installed but I have to treat my pre-existing TMJ first. In the mean time the screws help protect the gums to I'm not hurting myself when I chew on it. My advice since implants are so expensive is just save your money and only get that.

I've also gone the route of a crown on a tooth that had a root canal and that ended up being the teeth I had pulled. The tooth becomes brittle after a couple of years and starts breaking and there is generally a low grade infection in the root of a tooth that has had a root canal done. Root canals are not worth the money.
