    Started Physical Therapy

    Hello Friends!,

I recently began physical therapy as I have been having terrible neck/shoulder/jaw pain. I believe my trigger points were caused by starting up jogging. Prior to this flare up my neck and back would get sore/tight after physical activity or repetitive motions in arms.. but this would go away after a day or so. I feel like such an idiot for even risking the jogging. ugh

My PT found that my trap muscle is in really bad shape. She had me begin exercises to strengthen my lower and middle trap. These exercises have been causing me additional muscle spasms. I could barely turn my neck to the right this past weekend. I also felt pain in the lower and mid trap. I just started dry needling today so I cant really tell yet the effect it will have- I am really hoping for improvement.

Has anyone else had issues with physical therapy that involved trying to incorporate strengthening? Just seems like a bad idea to further over-work already over-worked muscles. Any thoughts here? What other things could a physical therapist help with aside from exercises? Perhaps stretching would be a better alternative?

    Thanks! Misty
