Sounds like you have TMD/myofascial pain syndrome (MPS). You are definitely not alone.
Your neck, shoulder and head pain is a strong indicator of MPS. Visual distortion, eye pain/pressure, tinnitus, earache, headache, and hyperacusis (ear sensitivity to noise) are common among people with MPS and TMJ. There are tons of other possible symptoms from TMJ and MPS. My understanding is the muscles are out of place - pulling on other muscles and not reverting back to a resting position. This creates a whole lot of problems, as the neck/jaw muscles pull/displace the muscles in the ear and face which results in awful symptoms throughout the head and body like you are experiencing.

I've got something very similar - slight vision distortion, tinnitus, earache, head/neck/shoulder tension/pain, jaw discomfort. I recently started physical therapy and I didn't even realize how tense and uncomfortable my shoulders, neck and head were feeling. I still have most of my symptoms, but I feel I am making progress.

I would recommend an appointment with a maxillofacial surgeon or a nueromuscular dentist just to get a more detailed picture. Both will more than likely recommend imaging and physical therapy. If your jaw pain is just a muscular issue, it can be resolved through diet, posture, and physical activity changes as well as physical therapy - though it takes TIME. If the jaw is dislocated or if there are other structural issues in the jaw or head the treatment would be tougher.

Tinnitus of TMJ and/or myofascial origin is treatable and CAN go away with treatment, as well as other symptoms that originate from TMJ/MPS.

Personally, I would recommend you see a physical therapist, especially for your shoulder, neck, and head pain - and a neuromuscular dentist or a maxillofacial surgeon (who would likely send you to a physical therapist too) to get a clearer picture and to get started on a treatment plan. I would NOT get any permanent treatment done like braces or surgery until you've tried ALL conservative methods first (soft diet, better posture, physical therapy, night guard).

Remember, you are NOT alone in this problem. This is NOT permanent and is treatable with the right methods. Best of luck.

Re: Tmj please help

I feel your pain. About 5 years ago, I bit down on a Panera Crouton and dislocated my jaw. My whole side of my side blew up. I was in severe pain I couldn't touch it nor could I even sleep on the side. I've seen so many doctors which many diagnosed me with swimmer's ear and on many medications. Since then, I've gone to therapy and I finally found a tmj specialist. I'm not able to eat anything crunchy hard or whatever soft food diet. I ate something chewy about 2 months ago and it blew my whole face up so much pain into my ear and down my jaw I thought the pain was never going to let up. My dentist told me to go do a facial pain doctor. Which at first I was excited, but after doing many research I found out TMJ is not curable it's treatable and they're not going to tell me something I don't know. So I'm doing acupuncture actually found some herbs that deal with inflammation ( feverfew and vitamin B) . I found a book at Barnes & Noble that I've learned more information from this book than all the doctors I've seen. I do very little exercises daily just to stretch your muscles but I don't want to overdo. It's terrible that I have to live with this pain forever. But I refuse to get surgery I've had an MRI done on my job it seemed fine but I just have to find what works for. It's the worse pain ever, I honestly thought I was alone.

Re: Tmj please help

I have all those symptoms and Iíve been diagnosed with TMJ. My vision can be smudged at times and my eyes can also appear puffy (or swollen) my jaw also pops out of place at times and thereís constant sounds whenever I open my mouth. You should speak to your dentist.

I am on the same boat. The only thing that has helped me has been lidocaine trigger point injections to my cheek
