Post Cost of Treatment

I keep seeing posts where you all talk about your splints being under $200....

My treatment with the neuromuscular dentist is going to cost me over $4000. Granted, that covers everything - all visits, the xrays, molds, neuromuscular workup & TENS treatment. I can't remember the exact breakdown but the lower neuromuscular splint I'm getting is no where near $200!!! What's up? If I'm lucky, insurance will pay about $2000 towards this. (And that's all they pay lifetime towards TMJ).

mek - I hear you - I'm trying to remember how much my splint was when I got it a long time ago but I think it was about $800. The night splint was $500. My TMJ never gave me a total of how much it would cost long term - I don't see how they predict this outside of a base set amount to cover splint, xrays, MRI, etc. The ongoing costs of TENS, injections, etc., is unpredictable especially if the case is a chronic one.

In my case I've surpassed the designated set amount from insurance by a long shot, so I'm responsible for the $$$ out of pocket because the insurance coverage isn't great at all for TMJ.

Splint therapy can be costly. Mine has also run me into the thousands, and was completely out of pocket.
I would imagine that a basic splint may only cost $200.00 but without the adjustments etc. it's worthless. Also, I believe my first night guard was under $200.00 and I know some people refer to night guards as splints.

Best of luck with your therapy!

Hi, I just got my insurance payment for my $675 splint (it is helping), they only paid $280. I was told when I spoke to them that they only pay %80 after I meet my out of pocket dudectible. I was told they would pay for it all except for the co-pay.

I have had a couple of splints, one for $1000.00 and the other for about $675.00. The first was largely covered by my MD (not dental) insurance, and I am waiting for payment for the second. I hope they pay for part of the second as well. The problem is that I am much worse after spending all that money on the splints! Neuromuscular treatment are much more expensive because it requires more instruments for diagnosis and adjustments.
