Wisdom Tooth Extraction and TMJ - London, England

Has anyone else developed TMJD following wisdom tooth extraction? Anyone know a good TMJ specialist in London, England?

Following the removal of my upper wisdom teeth 3 months ago, I have had increasing pain in my jaw and teeth (particularly molars) due to a new deeper bite as they are now tightly clenched when I am at rest, and started to loosen. I have also had gradually increasing pain around the ears, in what I have discovered to be my TMJ. Along with that, a feeling of blocked ears and itching. I knew this was a direct result of the wisdom tooth removal as it has been building up ever since. I have now developed vertigo and ringing in the ears over the last 9 days. It has been getting steadily worse to the extent I feel I am constantly on a fairground ride and keep losing my concentration. I have taken the last week off work and am seriously worried about the future of my job. I was convinced this was connected the pain resulting from the wisdom teeth extraction and went straight to Accident and Emergency. Having read these message boards and various othe sites, I have confirmation as I believed, that the vertigo is part of the TMJ problem and not 'psychological' or 'an ear infection' as the doctors tell me. I recognise a lot of what people have said on this forum.

I have also read that over the age of 30, there is increased risk of wisdom tooth extraction causing complications, particularly impacted wisdom teeth, as the bone density is higher. The dentist did not inform me of such a risk, but rather told me it was a simple routine procedure, and that upper wisdom teeth were very easy to remove.

The irony of all this, is that following orthadontic work 18 years ago, I had developed over the last few years slight jaw discomfort due to the upper and lower front teeth being directly aligned with each other (no overbite). I consulted an orthadontist about this who agreed to move the upper front teeth forward so that the lower jaw could move freely, but insisted my wisdom teeth would have to be removed first.

Since that day, my life has changed. I am now suffering from a terrible illness, that has not been recognised by any of the doctors or dentists I have spoken to here in London. It is only on the net that I have found anything about this disorder.

I would be grateful if anyone could let me know if they have had a similar experience following wisdom tooth extraction, and from any suffers in the UK.
There is a closed board with messages from Kris, Steve and Deb posted in 1999 who found the same link. It would be grateful if they could get back in contact.

    Hi Atibbert
Thanks for replying. I'm full of questions. I hope you don't mind me quizzing you. Do you experience vertigo? Who have you spoken to? What kind of specialists have you seen? Would it be possible for us to chat? Why did you have the teeth out in the first place? What kind of pain do you have?
