Unhappy Help

I have had tmj for awhile now but it seems these past 8 months i have realized it mroe and more. I have had a constant headache for the past 2 months I believe to be part of the tmj. Does anyone do anything to help the soreness? I feel like it's my muscles in my jaw that are causing this, do you think a muscle relaxer would help? I know motrin doesn't help the pain. Im just so stressed about about it. I use to wear a mouth guard at night, but I felt like it was just making my jaw even more sore. Any suggestions, someone help me?! Does anyone know of any TMJ specialists in the Fort Myers or Gainesville , Fl area? Thanks!!

Re: Help

The University of Florida has a pretty well known Facial Pain Clinic that deals with TMJ and other, related disorders. It is on Archer Road, across from the VA hospital.

Dr. Franklin Dolwick at the University Of Florida. He is the head of the Oral Surgery clinic at Shands in Gainesville. I have been a patient of his since November 1999.

Re: Help

Dr. Margaret L. Dennis at the Orafacial Pain Center in Jacksonville is great! I went to her a year ago with the same issues and am as close to pain free as a TMJ patient could be. She has a great orafacial massage therapist that can help with your muscle issues, it's a bit of a drive I know but I would at least visit them for a consultation so they can tell you how serious it is. Be carefull with your chewing and strech your back, neck & shoulder muscles when ever you can. Your muscles most definately can have a huge effect - they are all tied together in some way shape or form.
