Serious Question Here

Can performing oral sex on a man cause tmj?? I woke up two weeks ago with my left jaw up by my ear hurting....only when biting down on molars. It went away after 3-4 days but seems to reaccur at different times during the day....not to the extent it was two weeks ago,but it is definately there.
thanks

Re: Serious Question Here

Oh goodness, I doubt that it could cause TMJ but it might cause TMJ to become worse. Have you been diagnosed with TMJ?

Re: Serious Question Here

I'd think it'll be easier to get a lock jaw so it can probably affect TMJ...

Re: Serious Question Here

Thanks for your responses. I've never had issues with my jaw before. My husband and I have been married for 5 years..and a pretty active sex life. Also my dentist says that it appears that I grind my teeth at night due to the fact that one of my fillings is shiny..like it's being buffed at night.

I woke up about 4 weeks ago with my jaw aching..got worse through the day...it finally cleared up after a couple of days, but since then, each and every day there are moments where my jaw feels sore, then it will disapear. This happens all the time.

Is this how tmj reacts? And if i do in fact grind my teeth, that is what is possibly causing the tmj and the oral sex would just aggrivate it??

Re: Serious Question Here

Hi Debbie:
It's certainly possible that you have TMJ. The list of symptoms are extensive. There is a sticky post at the top of the page that has a list of symptoms on it. In regards to who you seek treatement from you should look for either a dentist or orthodontist who treats TMJ. Not just any dentist or orthodontist can treat TMJ properly. It's a tricky disorder. Perhaps you should seek out one of these two and start there. Good luck.
Tiffany
