Please help...need more answers!!

Hi again,
Most of you may know my story, I overdid it back in Aug. had neck and back pain, which brought on my tmj pain again...well..I have been doing better as far as pain and being able to do more..BUT the thing is ..its been 3 months and I still have to watch what I do or I am in more pain...if I do to much or like today...I tried to push a buggy in a store and got pain in my right shoulder which radiated up into my head, etc....My physical therapist says this is all muscular due to my tmj problem...HAVE any of you out there had this much of a problem or a lasting problem after a flare up? I just dont know what to do. I am fine if I just do nothing....its when I move and how I move that brings on pain....I am starting myofascial release again tomorrow but my p/t will only do it for one more month...I cannot make them understand how bad I need that therapy..and how it really helps me and I am getting very frustrated also! I am on flexeril at night and klonopin and lexapro for anxiety and depression...Should I dig further and perhaps see a professional or have an mri done on my neck? My jaw seems fine now and no tmj headaches....its like the muscles in my neck and upper back are really messed up. I also feel pain down my legs and just all over my back at times too. Please help me with any advice!!!! I am so tired of this pain!! Thank you so much! Tina

Tina,
I know exactly what you are going through. It's been 2 1/2 years since my root canal and I've been through 4 rounds of physical therapy, usually for about 3 months at a time. After every time I stop pt I somehow aggravate somthing and the pain starts its nasty cycle all over again. Just last week it started again and I have pain from the back of my neck going right down my back. It can be caused by something simple as bringing in the groceries or something I probably shouldn't be doing like heavy duty cleaning. But life must go on and I have two active kids who play hockey and sitting in the hockey rink is a real trigger! I feel the same way, am I supposed to just sit home and do nothing? (it's not an option) I have an appointment next week with a tmj specialist that my dentist referred me to. I'm praying he can give me some answers and relief because I feel like I've exhausted all my resources. I'm also thinking of going back to pt but I'm afraid of using up all my benefit on my health insurance.
Sue

Re: Please help...need more answers!!

Hello!
Thanks for your reply! You know how I feel then. So do you agree that all this pain I am having is from my tmj problem? My p/t thinks so...its just so hard to believe sometimes..and then all my friends and family say things like..."oh, you must have something much worse wrong with you, like MS or something" and then of course, I get scared. All I did was sweep out our new house we are building for 2 hours and now been in misery for 3 months. But I have shown alot of improvement. Thank you so much for your reply, it helps to talk to other women who have this and are trying to raise a family, an active family! Tina

Tina,
I can understand what your going through as well,
I have had some pain as well in my neck and shoulder, Pt does help, but I also found a very good chiropracter who told me that sometimes you can pitch a nerve in your neck or shoulder that will set off your tmj!
If you can find a chiro that does exrays and is speaclist in tmj then it might be worth a try.
"I was in a car accident a while back and fused 4 verabreays {spelled wrong) in my neck.
My arms would feel numb and tingle as well as my leggs. Going to a chiro at that time help me.

I know at times my jaw would hurt really bad as well as my neck and shoulder as well, I head to the chro first and most times it is not my tmj but a pitch nerve in my neck and shoulder that casued the tmj pain.
And once he gives me a treatment I am amazed that the jaw pain goes away.
Ask around with your family and freinds or neighbors for a good chiro in your area or look in the phone book and see if you can find one that will be willing to do x-rays and treats tmj. Most ones in the phone book will say if they treat tmj. but call and aske quetions first then decided if this doc is the one for you ok. keep me posted how this works out for you.
