    anybody from Portugal ?

    Hello

I am a TMJ suferer and live in Portugal.. I have had a 24/7 splint for the last 2 years and I am wondering if there is anybody out there who lives in Portugal.. I feel like I am alone in the world ... I dont know of anybody else with this problem..
I seem to have done some bone damage and I am waiting for it to grow back into its space. the process is long and painfull. I know started a therapy with Glucosamine as well and flollow a side therapy with Homepathic medication since I could no longer stand the side effects of conventional medication because the anti inflamatory drugs were taking its toll on me..
To top it all of there arent that many specialists in portugal in this area and I am starting to get restless even though I trully believe in the doctor that follows my case and have a wonderfull relathionship with him because he is very kind and pacient with me.
If anybody out there is from portugal please come forward

    Hello,

I am in Florida in the US so I cannot help you with the Portugal, but you are NOT ALONE in the world with TMJ. There are alot of us here and I hope you can find the emotional and mental support you need from this group!
    Take Care,
    Shirlett

Thank you Shirlett for the moral suport all the way form warm and sunny Florida, and I am already taking advantage of this board. Its great to exchange ideias about treatment and little tricks to help us get thru this ordeal. Its been a complicated 2 years for me, and I still dont see the light at the end of the tunel. I have done a lot of bone damage to my lower jaw and I hope that it will grow back since I am not interested in the surgery route. I am now taking glucosamine and chronditine to help my condition and we will see what hapens. Since the begining of my treatment I do feel better since I already went thru some stages where i couldnt even drive because I was so out of balance and didnt feel confortable driving, because I was very clumsy.. falling all the time droping things etc. Not to mention the pain the lack of sleep and being grumpy all the time while trying to carry on a normal family and work life.
The reason I was trying to find somebody in Portugal was to compare treatment options, doctors etc.
    Thanks again for you suport.

    Hello Mlouisa,

You mentioned the anti-inflammatory meds were taking a toll on you. What exactly did they do? I get nervous b/c of all the meds I take and just want to know before I keep popping these things like crazy.

    Re: anybody from Portugal ?

The combination of anti inflamatory drugs and the pain killers started to give me stomach cramps and diarrhoea so my doctor switched me to homeopathic medication and I do just fine. This of course doesnt mean that it will hapen to you.
