Which first? Repair or split?

Back again, I wanted to run my reasoning by those of you who have been through treatment for different tmj disorders.

I have been grinding & clenching since I was 3 y/o according to my mother. My children now tell me I STILL do it at 33.

The problem is I have ground my teeth until they have broke in the places. However I can't see spending thousands to repair them just to grind them back off again.

Soooo I wanted to tell the dentist I want a brace/splint before I get repairs. Is that thinking faulty?? I have to wait awhile to get into a tmj specialist but I'm trying to get my list of questions/demands ahead of time.

Thanks again everyone,

Re: Which first? Repair or split?

I also am a grinder and have been since I was a child and have destroyed most of my back teeth. I am 34 now. After speaking with my oral surgeon we decided that my teeth would not be replaced until after my implant surgery and only when I was in the clear. I since have had to have my left implant removed and maybe will be putting it back in at the end of this year. I did go see three local specialist and all three advised me to wait until after my surgeries since everything changes. I know there are a few out there that have also had the same problem I have with my teeth dying from nerve damage caused by the TMJ and surgeries so I have decided to wait to spend a large amount of money until I have both implants put back in for at least a year then I am getting veneers put in to replace the teeth that had to be removed to make room for my implants and that had to be removed due to heavy damage. I know it can be painful but you might want to wait until you meet with your Oral Surgeon and get his/her opinion.
I wish you luck.
