| dizziness : main symptom
I sometimes get head pain and popping, but the worst is the dizziness, that never seems to go away. What can I do?

Off-balance type dizziness. I'm fine when I'm sitting. What do you experience? |

Do you experience heavy-headedness, fogginess, disequilibirium and feel like the ground is tilted when you walk? Is it a constant feeling?

No heavy headed feeling, just feeling like my equilibrium is off. Some moments feel better than others so it's not constant, but feels like about 98% of the time. It's so annoying.

Do you suffer from any headaches? Any other symptoms?

I have been diagnosed with tension headaches as well as TMJ after a long series of tests. I am not sure whether you have either or whether you have had your ears checked (could be an inner ear problem). I think my own dizziness, heavy-headedness and disequiblibrium could be related to my neck. I have started seeing a chiropractor and I am hoping it could help. I have also started to exercise regularly. I am yet to see any tangible results. Have you seen a doctor about the dizziness?

I have dizziness that's kind of a fogginess / out of balance feeling. It's usually accompanied by sinus congestion and ear clicking / fullness. I've been diagnosed w/ TMJ due to a bad bite caused by night time bruxing / clenching.
From what I've read if you have TMJ the dizziness can be caused by 2 things - 1 trigger points in the sternocleidomastoid muscle that hold up your head and help orient you in space. Inflammation, muscle spasm in the jaw muscles (and tiny muscles connected to the jaw) that impact the function of the ear system. If that's the case and you have TMJ, it would make sense to see a massage therapist that can check your SCM and associated muscles for trigger points. Also a TMJ specialist can help the muscles in the jaw relax by making you a splint that allows these muscles to function as normal.
That said the above hasn't really helped me. I've been wearing a splint for 5 months now and actually feel my dizziness to be the same or a tad worse than before. I'm thinking about changing TMJ dentists / splints because I still have all the ear / sinus symptoms which I feel is due to some disc displacement on my left side. I haven't really pursued a massage therapist who specializes in TMJ related treatment yet either. They can be expensive...

Speaking of symptoms, I also get very tight shoulder muscles, pain around shoulder area and when I stretch it you can actually feel the tightness. Is this also a TMJ symptom? What would shoulder muscle tightness have to do with dizziness though?

At first I didn't realize that my lightheadedness feeling was in corrospondance with my TMJ so I saw a doctor about it. He didn't realize the TMJ issue either and suggested my lightheadedness was caused by dehydration (it wasn't though). So I started drinking water A lot more, especially when I had headaches. This seemed to help a lot with my headaches and lightheadedness from my TMJ.

Hello all....i have posted in the TMJ thread before, but I wanted to let everyone know what I came across. After being examined for the first time by a TMJ specialist, he told me I am a clencher. After being told this, I have realized that I clench my teeth without even realizing it. I am now making a concsious effort to relax my jaw muscles more and more and it has helped beyond words can explain.
I too have suffered with dizziness for 6 years now. I have had all the tests done...MRI, balance tests, blood tests, hearing tests, allergy tests...etc. I have even been told I have Menier's Disease and I should "get used to it for the rest of my life". Needless to say, I never gave up. I came across this board a month ago and it has helped me a lot.
I just got my splints today. I must wear them 24/7 for 3 months and I am wondering how I will get through these upcoming days and nights. It is very uncomfortable. I am willing to endure the discomfort because my dizziness is much better. I just wanted to let you all know what I have discovered about my situation. If anyone out there has the same dizziness I do, please, please, please pay attention to yourself and see if you are a clencher too. It has helped soooo much for me and I want to help someone, anyone else who suffers too. Please let me know what you discover about yourself too.
