URGENT: earaches may not be caused by tmj!

yup! I had an inner ear problem well still do, but also TMJ disfunction. It's the joint being inflammed which sits close to the ear and makes you think you are having chronic deep ear pain. Used to drive me nuts! If you have tmj put a warm hotwater bottle ont he joint to try and help it come out of spasm. good luck!

Yes that decribes my ears also with the high pitched ringing. I relate it to the joints not being in the right position. I kinda is related to nerves being compressed by inflammation in my opinion. I have seen and ear specialist and no problems and have had mris with nothing really showing up as abnormal with my ears.

I was beginning to shake because i thought i had a tumor?

What can i do guys?

Did your pain also make you sick as its so sharp and sudden, and the rest of the day youre jaw would ache and ache?

Anyone agree?

My oral surgeon told me that ear pain (also my worst symptom) is the one that tends to be the hardest to treat. In my case, I have an additional problem in that the muscle that opens and closes the eustachian tubes spasms because the roof of my mouth is narrower than normal. I just deep breathe and ignore it to be honest. I am used to it now and I can deal with it knowing it's nothing serious. I try not to use any pain meds, not even OTC because I don't want to build up a tolerance to them or have rebound. I do use heat on my neck and the TM joint which helps.

Oh my gosh do you all have the same pain as me , sharp stabbing pain? Do you know i burst out crying as i feel sick when it hurts...

Angel how long have you had yours? Are you getting surgery?

I am undergoing splint therapy. I absolutely will not have surgery unless there is no alternative. I have had ear pain all of my life.

Hey angel72 you're so so brave.. Teach me .. hey if this is to personal dont answer it and forgive me asking but how many years have you suffered your earaches...

I have now had them over a year and a half and then i had them when i was younger for 2 years... and you say you have had it forever...

I hate that sharp stabbing pain , do you know i fear it so much i am not kidding i hold my ears all day long and cradle a heatpac everynight to bed.

when that sharpness comes i turn crazy and become really emotionally unstable, because i could be sitting there watching television and then BAM it hurts and my stomach just hurls.. i serious have so many implications with this... i cant handle it...

How long are you into it .. im 3 weeks and 3 days into it .. and still the earaches remain .. the left side hurts to much ...

Do you take painkillers anymore? I have so much to ask you .. i just dont want to be nagging.. I cant believe this earpain hey .. do youhate loud noises... when my earsache i hate loud noises...

Ill stick by you , i cant believe someone has these earpains like me because i read migraines are the main symptom but i have never had one in my life .. just earaches.. you?

Hey there. I have had the earaches forever because I have a cross bite that I never let my parents have fixed! I try not to take anything for the pain unless it does not go away, I don't want to build up a tolerance or have rebound pain. The stabbing pains come and go and seem to be worse if I am stressed because I have a tendency to clench at night. I do get them daily, but as I said, they will last a few minutes and go away. I try to keep my neck and shoulders free of tension by stretching a lot because the tension does make it worse. Hang in there. I am 3 months into my lower splint but my oral surgeon said that ear pain is the most difficult TMJsymptom to get rid of. Honestly, I am just relieved that I am not dizzy anymore, that was the only thing I could not handle. About surgery, be careful. You should not do anything irrevocable unless there is no other alternative. Splint therapy does take time, but at least you can take it out! My best friend had her teeth filed and ended up getting worst TMJ symptoms than before. Even my oral surgeon told me he never recommends surgery unless all other alternatives have been exhausted.

Thanks again angel for you're reply...hey did your dentist make you''re splint... i have a displaced jaw disk thats why i need a lower splint....

I just feel really reall down , my dentist told me after 3 weeks i should be symptom free and i actually feel worse....

Its got to a point angel where i seriously cant wait bedtimes just so in my dreams i wont be haunted by those earaches My whole family is worrying and i feel bad because i cant even be me anymore.. i know people are worse of then me but seriously this has changed me .. i feel cynical... and most of all i have a deep anger for my dentist... she promised me ... i have had this too long for trial and error and i know you know exactly what i mean...

Our splints will make sure our earaches go away right? Because if thats not the reason then i just want to spit mine out... do you ever get a muscle moving like in your ears ( it doesnt hurt but feels like something is moving..)

If you get that muscle moving thing you're in luck.... im just mad because when i see my dentist they offer no advice and i even had to check if i had a ear infection with my local doctor.

Each day and minute is becoming a struggle because usually my pain subsides but these days it lingers.. im tired of false hope angel

How confident are you that our earaches will leave... im so glad you dont feel dizzy... sometimes i doubt if i even have tmj and it might be in my mind... everyone is over hearing me talk about my pain but i feel like yelling back and saying ïmagine they were us ... im so grateful for this board.. it keeps me sane.

Have your earaches improved? Do you eat with you're splint inside...why are you seeing a oral surgeon .. are you getting surgery? Make sure you dont get surgery...

I wish i could practice mind over matter but this earache business has really got me down... i hope you're doing better than i am ....
