I am not really sure if I suffer from TMJ or not. My mouth is crooked & has been all my life meaning when I open it up completely the lower jaw shifts giving ig it a crooked appearance. My jaws constantly pop while I chew & I suffer from cluster headaches which my doctor has prescribed Topamax which seems to take care of the problem. I have had the problem of my jaw locking on before but other than the above symptoms I haven't had all of the other symptoms listed with TMJ. So I am not sure if maybe I just have a mild case of it or maybe none at all & it's just something I have to live with. It would be nice to correct the popping & the crookedness but there again, I am not sure if it is possible.

Re: Tmj??

You do have a tmj problem, and you do not need to have all other symptoms to know this. Locking of the jaw is enough. The question whether anything has to be done is not an easy one. If you can I'd suggest to see a tmj specialist who can test your jaw with one of the following: jaw x-rays, Doppler test, MRI or Cat Scan.

In regards to your crooked mouth (and jaw popping) this can be easily explained by a bite in which there is either an interference (a wrong contact) on one side or one side is lower than the other. A good dentist competent in occlusion can check this out. It can be a very minor thing just like one high spot on one tooth or can be a more major problem.
It's good to know b/c in the long run it can cause more problems.
Just do not do anything irreversible w/o asking a dentist for a back-up plan and be very careful before doing anything.

Re: Tmj??

Thanks so much! I go to my dentist in April I will ask him to refer me to a Tmj specialist or see what he says about it.
