Wired shut and recovering from surgery...

I suffer from severe TMJ. I just had condylotomy surgery done 3 days ago and I am still very swollen and in a lot of pain. The pain is becoming more and more manageable as time goes on. Does anyone know how many days I should apply ice to my jaw before I switch over to heat or moist heat. When I google it I find conflicting views. Some say only 24 hours, while others say to ice until the swelling is gone. I plan on asking my doctor tomorrow. In the mean time I just want to make sure I'm not over doing it.

On another note is anyone going through the same surgery recovery as I am? I can't stand eating through the tube that fits behind my back teeth so I have been sticking to more liquid like boost, jamba juice, and v8. Whatever is thin enough to fit through my teeth but I am really missing food. Any food ideas, tips, or advice would be greatly appreciated. thank you and God bless
