Unhappy Severe ear pain

I have severe jabbing pain in my right ear, it happened every few minutes and it only last for a few seconds but it is very intense, i have been on antibiotics and painkillers for 2 weeks now it is not as severe but it is still there, my doctor sent me for a blood test for a underlying cause that usually happens in older people than myself, something to do with the temple area, i am 61yrs old, can any one tell me what this is and what the doctor is testing for with the blood test. please somebody help me!

Re: Severe ear pain

Welcome to HealthBoards.

Since you posted on the TMJ board, are you thinking that your ear pain could be related to TMJD? It can be a symptom, it was in my case. If so, antibiotics and bloodwork won't show anything for that.

If you think you are having a physical problem or infection of your ear and your current treatments aren't working, you might need to seek out an ENT.

As for your bloodwork, it can show if you have inflammation in your body. I can't help you with your question on the temple. TMJD can cause facial muscle spasms though that can radiate up the side of the face and cause headaches though. There is a "sticky" post at the top of this TMJ board that gives a whole range of potential TMJ symptoms.

I hope you are feeling better.
