I do not know which came first the facial pain (by this I mean teeth and gums) or the TMJ disorder that I have recently been diagnosed with after suffering for 11 months and going thru 5 dentists a periodontist, a neurologist, an ENT and Oral Suregeons.
I have been given gabapentin ( tapered up to 1200 mg) and then Nortriptyline (tapered up to 75 mg) not at the same time. The only thing I got from these drugs was my hair started to fall out.
I finally drove hours to see an orofacial pain specialist at CaseWestern to determine if I had nerve damage. He did a thorough exam and determined my muscles are in spasm which is causing the pain in my upper molar and I also have a sensation of something in my gum tissue where two teeth where pulled
( looking back, they probably hurt due to the muscle spasms).
Can anyone here confirm that they have had tooth pain / gum tenderness or tingling sensation in gums? Just curious as I am still questioning the diagnosis. Although it makes sense. I am off all oral medicine now, using heat and a topical compounded prescription of amitriptyline/ lidocaine/ ketoprofen that goes directly on my gum tissue. He also wants to do a trigger point injection on 3% polocaine no epinephrine. Is this a good thing to do? Can those here who know anything please advise on any of the question? Thank you so very much!
