Help with BBT

I did my first month tracking my BBT and am trying to figure out when I ovulated but am confused about the results. Does anyone have experience with this? How accurate is it?

I understand you need three days of elevated temperatures to confirm ovulation, but that seems to have come too late (That was day 18 and my CM was not good and CP was low and firm for several days). I had a big dip down on day 10 then a gradual increase to a small peak on day 14. Day 15 had a big (-0.4) drop back to day 11 and 12 levels then a small increase (+0.2) for two days until day 18 when the temperatures remained at the higher level.

I think I ovulated on day 13 or 14 based on my calendar, EWCM, and CP soft, but then why did I have a drop in temperature after that? Also, day 13 had a bit of an increase in temp, so could I have ovulated on day 12 even though there wasn't that much EWCM yet?

I took the temperatures orally close to the same time each morning when I was still pretty asleep with a cheap digital thermometer that is supposed to be accurate to the 0.1 degree.

Re: Help with BBT

First it takes about three cycles to be able to really see the patterns and understand your charts. Second read the book Taking Charge Of Your Fertility.
As for a cheap thermometer dont worry over that.I used a cheap one for a long time and our second DS was conceived while using that cheap one. It is very important to take the temp at the same time every morning with at least 3 hours of sleep and no getting up or moving too much before and during the time you are taking the temp.
You are still getting use to charting and it takes a bit to get the hang of but once you do it is easy to follow and understand.
