Coloring Hair at Ovulation Harmful to Developing Baby?

I am trying to understand if the baby would be starting to develop enough within a day or two of ovulation to be concerned with coloring my hair and exposing myself to toxins? In my mind I guess I am thinking that those first few days would be critical to development and it wouldn't be a good idea, especially since most suggestions are to wait until after the 1st trimester to color your hair. My husband and I are TTC and I come to find out I have a hair coloring appointment that has been scheduled for months that is within a day or two of ovulation. I don't want to take any chances, but didn't know to what extent you are acutally considered pregnant at that point. Implantation probably wouldn't have even taken place yet. Any thoughts?

I don't think it would hurt anything.
I am big in hair coloring and mine colors are always changing. With Ds I didn't know I was pg until I was 8 weeks and I colored my hair during the time I O'ed and when I was already 5 or 6 weeks along. This time I had my hair colored the day after AF was suppose to arrive and I was pg then too but it has had no affect on either of the kids.
I did hold off getting my hair done again (it was really hard to have normal coloring) until almost the end of my 2nd trimester.
If you are really still concerned make a quick call to your dr and just ask them I'm pretty sure they will tell you what they think.

Hi there,
I agree with you. The egg won't implant until 2 or 3 days, I believe, after it's fertilized. So I think it would be okay to color your hair around that time, but if you're concerned, asking your doctor won't hurt! Or hold off if you can for a month, if you're concerned that could keep you from concieving--maybe it'll do the trick!

I am going to differ from the other posts and say do not colour your hair within 2-3 months of trying to conceive. My first m/c I had coloured my hair before ovulation. My chemical I had coloured a few weeks before. I know it may very well have nothing to do with it at all but I can't help but wonder if it did. The egg are starting to mature I think from day 5 of the cycle so now I don't drink or do anything when ttc. Better to be safe. I read in a book on ttc that you should take care for 90 days before ttc. In it they said don't colour for 2 or 3 months although research is limited they don't really know for sure.
Oh, also wanted to add that after my first m/c I coloured my hair about a month after and my hormones were still out of whack - I nearly blacked out and had to rinse it out in 5 minutes - had a reaction - to a hair colour I had used many times in the past.

Thanks to all of you for the posts. I actually decided that it might just be best to pass this month up and ttc again in Oct. Besides the hair appointment, (which I only do every 4 months) I also have a vacation that is during this cycle and I have weighed everything and think it is best to avoid this month. Thanks again for the help!
