BBT question

This is my 2nd cycle charting and I am having concerns about my bbt. Before o my temps are low extremely low. My temp goes down to 96.8 after o it has went up to 98.4. My questions is this, is my pre-o temps to low? Does this mean something is wrong? Im kinda freaking out , worrying that this is to low. Dont low temps suggest thyroid issues?
TIA

Re: BBT question

It could maybe mean something but not always. In my case, my temps are low throughout, your post-o temps are higher then mine get.. My low end is 96.4F.. high end at best is 97.9F. I wouldn't freak out over it. I actually think your temps are pretty normal. Some women's natural body is higher, others is lower.

Here's some good news, there was a study done very recently and its now been published in I think it's the british medical journal, I can't remember the exact name of it lol.. anyway, people with naturally lower body temps actually live longer then those with higher body temps. I had the article a few weeks back but don't know where I put it. Anyway, hopefully that makes you feel better about it!

As for myself, I do have thyroid issues though have gotten my recent blood test results back and everything has gone back to normal. Originally, my body was actually going into hyperthyroid, so it was overworking itself... meaning my temps should have been higher.. lol. My temps are just naturally low.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. I see a lot of charts with your temps and many as BFP's.. since that's all I search haha. I'd post them here though it's a nono sorry.. if you use an online chart, if it's the same one I use.. you can search the charts in there and look specifically for pregnancy ones and low temps/high temps.. and a bunch of other options. It's very handy!

Hope this helps, don't stress over it though I'm more then sure your temps are fine, especially since you didn't have any sort of prior concerns until you temped. I had believed I had a thyroid problem for a very long time, though, I think you're safe. Worse case scenario, if you really are that worried, ask your doc to run some blood work.

Re: BBT question

Thaele,
Thanks so much for responding. I have been looking at charts, I am a bit ocd about it. I keep hoping I will some how unlock some "clue" as to what to look for in my own chart. I was concerned because my pre-o temps were low but I do have a definite shift and my temps are high after o. I am going to keep charting and just see how it goes. I plan on having a check up after the first of the year and will just have everything checked out. Hopefully I am prego before then and won't need to have a "whats wrong with me check up?" My chart doesnt seem to be the classic chart but i know alot of things can effect your temps. Thanks again

Re: BBT question

When I first started charting, my charts were really uncharacteristic.. I think that was partially due to being slightly 'ocd' like you are heh. I think it's very natural because we do badly want to be pg.. but I strongly believe that it does something to our bodies when we get really obssessive about it all. I'm not saying I wasn't, because I definately was. My first 2 charts were really off! I know that my thyroid went out of whack and all but it was at the same time I JUST started charting so I think it has something to do with it, subconsciously.

I think your temps are actually fairly normal. I'm at the very lowest end of the range where your temps should be, your lowest end is higher then I am. I think you're still normal. Slightly lower then most women.. but like I said.. you'll live longer then most women

Don't worry too much about it all. Until you have that appointment, you'll just stress your body out and that's not going to help to get pg. I've been fortunate enough that I've had a fairly thorough exam because of my past 2 cycles being so bad. I know that my body is ok, my levels are fine, even had a vaginal u/s (I know, sounds fun eh?).. so I know that it's all in working order and maybe that's put my mind at greater ease then I could have done on my own.

It's easier said then done, but try not to stress over this stuff. It'll happen, it may take its time.. but it will! If you keep charting and have questions ask em here.. I've researched a lot on it, wouldn't say I know everything by any means but understand a lot on it. Even if you're just wanting to discuss the temps. I wish we could post our charts in here, or even link our charts.. but oh well!

Re: BBT question

Thaele,
Thanks for your post. The Ocd part i mentioned was reguarding how i stalk charts, research, read and immerse myself in all things about ttc. This should be my fertile week so fingers crossed, I hope for some major bding. I have ordered preseed and it hasnt arrived yet hoping it comes in tomorrow. I have started taking fertilecm again and just hoping i will be blessed this cycle. Dh will be traveling alot for work next month and so that cuts into bding time. This would be an excellent christmas present!
Thanks again
