An unknown issue - lots of blood in urine and pelvic pain

Hello, I'm having an annoying issue and I need help.

For about a month, I've been having pelvic pain on my right side. It was really bad at first, but the pain got lighter as time went on, but was constant and would never leave unless I took an a pain reliever pill.

At first I had the idea of Appendicitis, but when I went to the doctor she said it was not. Instead, she said it's more likely either an ovarian cyst or a passing kidney stone(I was frequently passing kidney stones few years ago.)

Then, about a week and a half ago, on friday night, I went to take a **** and the urine was strait red! I freaked! What was going on?!

I went to the doctor again and she said it's a passing stone that's caused a urinary tract infection. But I didn't get an X-Ray, so how does she know if it's being caused by a stone? If I was passing a kidney stone, why didn't my kidney hurt? This isn't making any sense, and I'm so worried.

They put me on an antibiotic to clear up the infection - well it's been a week now, and all it did was get rid of an ear infection I had.
I can't tell if I still have blood in my urine because I'm having my period, but it's almost over.
The pelvic pain is still there, but I've noticed how it's changed and is on and off. Like yesterday, I didn't feel it, but today I have it.

So what do you think? Why isn't my antibiotic working?

What do you think this problem is?

Thank you very much for any help!

I am trying to help here and I know that you are scared. It's scary. I have a bladder disease called IC Insterstiatal Cystisis. It is the wearing away of your bladder wall and anything that touches it that is acidic like coffee or OJ will cause god awful pelvic pain, it is different for everyone that has it. It will produce blood in the urine and it is horrible. I don't want to scare you but it sounds like the same thing to me, but you have to have the urologist to test for it. Now there are a couple of ways that they can test for it so it depends on your doctors preference. See what he says and if you have already been tested I guess it could be a stone. Do you have endometriosis? Sometimes they go hand in hand.
    I hope this helped.
There is a diet you can follow to test it out - nothing acidic you can only drink water, green tea, pear juice and milk. Milk helps it calm down. NO CRANBERRY JUICE! It is highly acidic. No aged cheeses, only American, cream cheese, ricotta, mozerella soft cheeses. No lunch meats only organic if you can. Butter is fine, olive oil, no salad dressings or condiments or spices. Like Mexican or Italian food. Potatoes are good, Plain noodles, any vegtables except tomatoes or onions. No fruits except blueberries watermelon and pears.
It's no fun - I know but I would give it a try for a couple of weeks.

Thank You for your help! I've never heard of that condition and I couldn't find any more info over the net. Do you know of a site I can get more info from?

Anyways, I peed in a cup this morning, and yes - there's still blood in it. Infact, the reason I'm up so early(woke up at 3:30 am!) is cause the pelvic pain for some reason, was really painfull. I took a pain reliever, hopefully I can go back to bed.

I've also noticed that posistions of my body cause the pain too. Like stretching to my right side(where the pelvic pain is).

The diet for this possiblle condition sounds awfull and expensive. I love fruit. I'm not a real fan of oranges or orange juice, but I do like mangos and peaches. Do you think beef jerkey is bad too(my favorite food)?
I usually drink most of the time is gingerale, it's caffine free. I avoid caffine drinks, as they keep me awake.

If any info would help out, I'm also a seizure patient. I take lamictal and keppera.

    Hi Turtle,

Both a kidney stone and a bad urinary tract infection can cause blood in the urine. I don't know how old you are or if you smoke but if after finishing the full course of antibiotic treatment, the pain remains and, more importantly, the blood, then I would request a referral to either a urologist or a urogynecologist.

A urinary tract infection can be verified with a simple urine sample test and kidney stones should also be verified and not assumed. The kidney stone is probably more likely because you have had them before. These kinds of things recur if you have already had them. I assume the doctor also told you to drink lots of water ? If not, do so in order to flush the kidneys.

If it does turn out to be a kidney stone, speak to your doctor or specialist about possibly going on some potassium citrate or sodium citrate therapy long term in order to help keep the kidney stones from returning (only do this under the guidance of a physician as they would have to determine if you a good candidate for this). There are also dietary things you can do to help.

You will know for sure when you are off your period. As soon as you know, take action. The quicker you take care of this, the shorter the recovery period.

Best of luck and I hope you get the answer soon.
