Would a cystoscopy find out if you have a bladder infection? I currently have an appointment for one but it won't be for a few months.

For some reason, this bacteria doesn't show up on normal urine lab tests sent by the family doctor/urologist ... which is why it's gone undiagnosed for the last 10 years. It wasn't until I showed up to the hospital emergency and did their urine test could they find out about the infection. After 3 days of antibiotics, the symptoms were much better (less frequent/urgent urination, less discharge) but not completely gone. So either I need more antibiotics, or there has already been some permanent damage to my bladder due to not treating it for 10 years.

So I'm wondering could this be some unique strain of bacteria that most labs aren't able to catch?

A cystoscopy allows your dr. to look inside your bladder. The dr. would be able to see inflammation, ulcers and damage to your bladder. The dr. may also decide to take biopsies of the bladder to test.

One possibility - you should look into Interstitial Cystitis, which is what I have. You get all the signs and symptoms of an infection, but the tests and cultures of your urine are negative.

To detect a bladder infection, I believe they can only detect that by testing your urine.

Hang in there, hopefully you'll have some answers soon.
