I'm not sure about that claim, but Flax Seed oil has alpha lipoic acid in it and other OMEGA's that are just plain good for you..

I'm really starting to look more for the whole food complexes that have things in them....not synthetically derived isolated versions typically cranked out. Better to have the whole thing than just one part.

Jennita, actually Flax seed has Alpha Linolenic Acid.
I'm not sure if thats the same as Alpha Lipoic Acid.
I'm gonna call a Vitamin company to find out.

Oh, whoops, I just looked at my bottle. Got the two mixed up.

The good news is I looked it up and found out my recently purchased Brewyers Yeast has it, the Alpha Lipoic Acid I mean. Apparentely it is also in spinach too which is my preferred salad.

I wonder if the flax oil has it too. Let me know what the vitamin company says; but I imagine they would have listed it on the bottle? My bottle from Nature's Bounty does list 108 mg of "other fatty acids and phytonutrients" so I wonder if that's it?

    I called Nature's bounty.
They told me there totally different.
Alpha Linolenic Acid is an omega 3 vitamin.
Alpha Lipoic Acid is an antioxidant

Hey thanks for writing back with the info! I thought maybe among the other "phytonutrients" listed was possibly the Alpha Lipoic. Oh well, guess the brewyers yeast and spinach will cover it anyway...

    Thehappyman.
I'm not to familiar with Sam-E.
I was just reading about it online.
It sounds like its good for mood swings and joint health.
    It sounds similar to 4HTTP.
One thing about Sam-E. Its pretty expensive.

    The Vitamins I would recommend.
    Alpha Lipoic Acid.
Coenzyme Q-10. This is probably the best vitamin.
    Get atleast 50MG.
It promotes HEART health, LONGEVITY and ENERGY
Its expensive though. I get it at Walgreens.
Usualy I wait for a buy one get one free.
I buy the Nature's bounty Coenzyme.
Grape Seed. This is a great anti oxidant.
    Calcium with Vitamin D
    Vitamin C
Flax Seed. A great vitamin for the heart. I get the Natures Made Flax Seed.
Also get a good Multi Vitamin.

Alpha Lipoic Acid is what the Perricone diet recommends you supplement to help the potentcy of supplementing with anti-oxidents and multi vitamins. It helps the with transport and delivery I believe. I also read that people supplement this because it helps balance their blood sugar levels extremely, similar to chromium. I take it myself to try and help with my acne, and it does seem to make it more mild. If you want more information on it, you could try buying any of Dr. Perricone's books for details of how it works and what else you should do to help your skin from aging.

I'll believe that ANY substance can increase life spans when the person peddling it is over 120 and has the birth certificate to prove it!

When Perricone reaches 120, it's ALA for me!

I am the number 1 skeptic in the world I think, but I've been using ALA since I first heard of it about 2-3 yrs ago. Faithfully, every day. What orignally was said about ALA, was to take 400mg of ALA, as well as 500 mg Acteyl-L-Carnitine, per day. Now supposedly there was some study done on this combination, and it looked promising to keep the cells "young". Does it work? I just turned 50. Do I look 30? No. Do I feel younger? No. I look pretty good for my age, but I don't think when they say it keeps you young, they mean physically. I just think they mean it keep the cells healthy. I guess time will tell. It would be nice though, wouldn't it?

Hi Laurie_Dhue - Sam-e is good for fighting depression and joint health but it is also reputed to be of great aid for the Liver..... Do a search in your search engine for Sam-e and Liver

Coenzyme Q-10 is great, but it's not a Vitamin, it's an anti-oxidant, like Alpa lipoic Acid..... But it's not both fat and water soluble like ALA is..... and it is expensive but Sam-e is even more expensive !!!!!

Not familiar with Nature's bounty Coenzyme.......

You are right - Grape Seed extract is also a great anti-oxidant.....

Calcium with Vitamin D and Vitamin C are essential
But dont forget about adding Vitamin E. It works especially well when taken with Vitamin C

Flax Seed Oil, Primrose oil, Omega 3 Fish Oil.......
    They are also wonderful........

Soon, the U.N. based Codex organization will try to ban all herbs and supplements in the U.S., unless they are prescribed by a Doc.... This would be a really bad thing were it to come true..... You will be hearing more about this shortly... They have already succeded in Australia... Most supplements and vitamins are banned there unless you have a Doc's prescription...... And now they are trying to do the same thing to the U.K., and next on the list would be the U.S.A.

    have a Great Weekend

what is the difference between this anti-oxidant and others?
i am currently taking: multi-vit, co-q10, and evening primrose oil, besides drinking lots of green tea.

am i already getting this anti-oxidant? or if i am not, what foods is this in?

    thanks!

Cheapest source of LOTS of ALA is Canola Oil...make your salads with it and you'll get far more ALA than from any $$$EXPENSIVE$$$ supplements for pennies!
