Calcium/Magnesium

This liquid supplement is supposed to be side effect free--but it irritates my digestive track. Anyone else have a problem with this stuff?

Re: Calcium/Magnesium

Hi gipper62,

I'd like to add to your posting. I was going to ask what the most effective Calcium/Magnesium combo was out there. I heard that Magnesium Citrate is the best to take. I'm currently taking a Cal/Mag combo from GNC, but it contains Mag. Oxide. Is this combo sufficient?

I just recently purchased Magnesium Asporotate by Solaray. It contains Aspartate, Citrate, and Oxide. Would this be better to take? I'd like to take a combo rather than taking a separate Cal. and Mag. supplement.

6foot3, do you have any recommendations?

Thanks

Re: Calcium/Magnesium

Cappy...you didn't state if your male or female...If male i'd go for 1 to 1 in calcium to magnesium. If female i'd go for 2 to 1 calcium over magnesium. Yes the citatres or chelates are the best in magnesium as they absorb better. It very hard for rock minerals to be absorbed thats why food is always better but the amounts are lower. Lastly if your stomach can tolerate it then try to get 500 mg daily of magnesium. I never take Calcium as i take tons of whey protein and each scoop has 200 mg of calcium so i take 1000mg a day to balance that out.... later...

Re: Calcium/Magnesium

Hi 6foot3, I am male. The combo I am taking now is 600mg Cal / 300mg Mag. I do take other supplements with Cal. so maybe I'll just take the Mag. Citrate alone. I take an Immune Enhancer that contains Whey Extract.

Thanks

Re: Calcium/Magnesium

Gipper,

If you have a sensitive colon, etc. citrate would not be my choice. Ezorb calcium is a great product and easily absorbed without the presence of magnesium. I then take magnesium separately in the form of magnesium glycinate chelated.
