Re: Anyone Know Anything About Vitamin K?

Vitamin K is a fat soluble that is found mainly in green leafy vegetables especially spinach, parsley and kale. It need some fat to be absorbed so add a little bit of Olive Oil as a dressing. Its always been knowm for the clotting factors in that it helps creat the enzymes that are responsible for this.

Now more research is showing that it helps keep Calcium in the bones and out of the Arteries so if your concerned about osteoporosis or calcified arteries you may want to check the bio-active form and thats K2 (menaquione) and not the standard k1 (phytonadione).

Re: Anyone Know Anything About Vitamin K?

Vitamin K is used in the body to control blood clotting and is essential for synthesizing the liver protein that controls the clotting. It's involved in creating the important prothrombin, which is the precursor to thrombin - a very important factor in blood clotting. Also is responsible for bone formation and repair. In the intestines it also assists in converting glucose to glycogen, this can then be stored in the liver. Soem studies shoe Vitamin K may decrease the incidence or severity of osteoporosis and slow bone loss.

A shortage of this vitamin may cause nosebleeds,or internal hemorrhaging, gum bleeding, heavy periods, easy brusing, blood in urine, fractures, anemia and more

It also is found in beauty products to help the dark circles under eyes.

Re: Anyone Know Anything About Vitamin K?

I started taking 200mcg a day yesterday for dark circles under my eyes. The guy at GNC thought I was a little nutty, but I have Scoliosis too so hey if it helps with bone loss that may help me too.

Does anyone know if Viatmin K deficiency can cause Scoliosis? Maybe that's been my problem all along?
