Question Doc said I am taking too much. Can you help?

Nothing frustrates me more than conflicting info.

Today I was told by a new gyno that 5000 iu of D3 is WAY too much. This is the amount a highly respected local nutritionist told me to take (she said she takes 6000). On this amount, my last level was a 73 (which seemed to be middle road). Now I am doubting everything I take (except Magnesium because that has changed my life).

Curious what others think...Any help is SOOOO appreciated!!!!

    5000 iu D3

    1000mg Vit C (ascorbate - buffered)

    100mg CoQ10

    1000mg Fish Oil (EPA 180/DHA 120)

    B-100 Complex

    Krebs Cycle Chelates:
    Calcium 600mg
    Iron 5mg
    iodine 100 mcg
    Magnesium 400mg
    Zinc 15mg
    Selenium 75 mcg
    Copper 1mg
    Maganese 2mg
    Chromium 100 mcg
    Molybdenum 25 mcg
    Sodium 10mg
    Potassium 100mg
    Boron 4mg
    Vanadium 50 mcg

    Krebs Potassium/Magnesium Chelate:
    Magnesium 250mg
    Potassium 100mg

    1000 mcg Methyl B12 (sub-lingual)

I know getting the same confusion here. I think doctors don't know that much about nutrition, so advice from a nutritional expert might be a better route to follow? But I think if you listen to your body it should let you know if it's to much? Questions, what's the best answer to follow!! And who's advice it right?
    Wish I knew!!!

Research changes all the time so your guess is as good as anyones. I read that taking that strength of D3 helps lower your chance of breast cancer. My wife tried the same dosage but it made her sick and even at 2000. She wanted to take it because of the research we did on it. So if you can take it and your levels are normal then I don't see a problem. Since my wife can't take it, I take the 2000 even though I probably don't need it. I figure better safe than sorry. Most doctors don't check your D3 level with their regular blood test so no one knows there levels. I don't and either does my wife. Good luck.

5000 iu D3: quite high, but if you don't go into the sun or always use sun cream, it's ok, but have your vit D level checked yearly.

1000mg Vit C (ascorbate - buffered): Quite high, reduce to 500 mg

    100mg CoQ10

    1000mg Fish Oil (EPA 180/DHA 120)

B-100 Complex: way too high, don't take more than 3 time the Recommended Daily Allowance, that should be more than enough.

    Krebs Cycle Chelates:
Calcium 600mg: depends very much on how much you get from your diet.
Iron 5mg: again, depends on your diet.
    iodine 100 mcg
    Magnesium 400mg
    Zinc 15mg
    Selenium 75 mcg
    Copper 1mg
    Maganese 2mg
    Chromium 100 mcg
    Molybdenum 25 mcg
    Sodium 10mg
    Potassium 100mg
    Boron 4mg
    Vanadium 50 mcg

    Krebs Potassium/Magnesium Chelate:
    Magnesium 250mg
    Potassium 100mg

    1000 mcg Methyl B12 (sub-lingual): very high!

Re: Doc said I am taking too much. Can you help?

I recently heard a talk from the world's leading expert on Vitamin D who, based on the talk, is a genius, and has done studies on every conceivable topic one could imagine on vitamin D, including in animals, and is the same person who developed the test to measure vitamin D levels. He presented a lot of studies that showed vitamin D deficiency is rampant and causes a number of diseases and treating persons with vitamin D deficiency causes all kinds of benefits.

As I recall, he said that 3000-4000 IUs/day of vitamin D is safe. I do not get much sun exposure and I am taking 3000/day to make sure that I am not taking too much. 5000 IUs/day seems to high to me. I have heard of people taking this dose (there was a Yale-educated doctor on the Dr. Oz show who I think was taking 5000/day, or at least close to this), but they have their blood levels checked very frequency and I don't think that it's worth it.

I did not look at the list of other supplements you are taking.
