Talking Not sure where to turn

Figured would give this a try, seemed like a friendly board

In 2012, I had a procedure done called a Duodenal Switch.

    And so it begins.

These symptoms all began about six months after my surgery (more on why this delayed later on).

    Symptoms:
    - Severe full body inflammation
    - Anemia
    - Cronique Fatigue
    - Severe Night Sweats
    - Random high fever (unknown origin)
There are others but those are the highlights.

My inflammation markers are 50x normal.

Randomly my white blood cell counts spike but normal. I get blood work every 30 days now.

I have seen virtually every specialist one could and ruled out all the norms and abnormal. Have you seen a ...? Chances are yes. Even spent a week at UCLA seeing at least 20 specialist. They ruled it to be a heart infection but that has since been ruled out.

I had my DS in 2012, topped out at 420, got down to 190, now hover around 205-215 on average.

Most of my blood work is normal, all my vitamins are normal and I'm now on quarterly iron infusions for the anemia. B12 is normal. Ruled out all the major and minor stuff.

Looking into speciality clinics in Mexico and the U.K. now.

The one "X" factor that made things challenging, between 2013-2015, I dealt with severe alcoholism, pretty bad in fact, I went into rehab and have been clean for 16 months now. I was going through these symptoms during my alcoholism but they were often overlooked, hard to argue pain when you are always intoxicated.

Right now I am on a heavy dose of steroids and pain meds. When it got really bad, could barely walk. The docs can't seem to find whatever the infection is but they are convinced it's an infection. I've not been to any strange parts of the world but I have traveled a bit. I eat all my proteins and take all my vitamins.

Sadly, not very active because of the random join inflammation and pain.

    Any feedback would be appreciated.

Re: Not sure where to turn

    Hi,

You said you have seen all kind of specialists. Did any of them have a degree in nutrition? Were any of them dietitians? Medical doctors are not trained to look for dietary problems.

You said, "I eat all my proteins and take all my vitamins."

Based on what you said, I suspect it's your diet. Taking vitamins may be necessary sometimes if you have a deficiency or eat a poor diet. But taking vitamins cannot fully replace eating natural whole foods. For example, you need at least 25 grams of fiber from natural whole plant-foods. Foods like fresh fruit, fresh non-starchy vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds. These are the foods that will feed your immune system and help you fight off infection, inflammation and fatigue etc.

In my opinion, trying to live on protein and vitamins is a really big mistake. So I'm not at all surprised at all the symptoms you have listed.
