    Fat free olive oil?

Hey, I bought some olive oil the other day, mainly because of what was listed in the Nutritional Information chart on the side of the bottle.

CEDAR EXTRA VIRGIN COLD PRESSED OLIVE OIL

    Per 125ml:

    80 calories
    0.5g fat
    18 carbohydrates
    2 protein

    ------

Is this even possible? A fatfree olive oil? .... then I thought to myself that it must be a mistake... or, they're lieing. They aren't allowed to lie on these charts, are they?
    What's the deal?

Vegan, does it break down the fats any more than that, like the polys and monos?

I'm looking at my bottle of just regular olive oil right now, and it's 102 calories, 2 grams saturated, 2 grams polyunsaturated and a wonderful 10 grams of monounsaturated. Personally, I wouldn't ever give up the monounsaturated. It's so important for our bodies, and olive oil and fatty fish are about the only foods we can get this in good amounts.

I'm also noticing my bottle doesn't have any carbs or protein. Maybe that's the difference?

    Very interesting. Thanks for posting

    Lysne

P.S. They're not supposed to lie on those charts, but some companies do and get sued big time for it. They'll also sometimes manipulate the numbers so it looks good at first glance, i.e., make the serving size so small, it's a joke. I was looking at some baked chips the other day that advertised it was "healthy", but a serving size was four chips, which wasn't even a handful. A handful or about a dozen of these chips had more calories and fat than the normal fatty, high calorie chips I used to eat.

    The lable reads:

    Total fat: 0.5g
    Saturated: 0
    Trans: 0

They can't lie, and CAN be sued? Well, maybe I should make myself some money....lol, because I know Olive oil isn't fat free by any means....lol.

I love it, and wouldn't give it up either.

Question Re: Fat free olive oil?

Strange indeed. Mine is 120 calories per tablespoon with 14 total grams of fat. What does your label read as far as ingredients? Very curious.

I should take a picture of it and post it for you guys...it's kinda weird. Very strange.

The ingredient is simply 'Cold pressed 100% olive oil'.

Wow! LOL You should write or call the company. If it was a label miss-print or something, they'll probably send you a bunch of coupons for free olive oil. A guy I work with did that. He opened a bag of potato chips and found a whole potato inside! This was just a couple of weeks ago. He showed it to us and we couldn't believe it. It was a small potato but it was whole! He called the number printed on the package and they asked for some product number and date. When he told them he took a digital picture of it they asked if he wouldn't mind emailing it to them. It was probably less than 10 minutes later, and they called him back. The lady on the phone told him that everyone in the office got a kick out of the picture he sent. They said they've never seen anything like it. They're mailing him $50 worth of coupons good for free bags of chips - any flavors. How cool is that!

The federal government allows them to say fat-free if it's 0.5g or less per serving.

If it's 0.5g or less per serving then, yes, it's legal for them to lie.

Talking Re: Fat free olive oil?

Hey Vegan, I'm still trippin' on this olive oil thing. Everyone knows there's no such thing as 0.5 grams of fat in a serving of 100% pure olive oil. I'd be curious to know what the manufacturer would have to say about that. Hey, if they've invented some new techique to remove the fat from the fat, they'd be RICH!!! I'll buy it!! LOL

    Take care

Curious as to the brand name of this oil. Maybe it is like Olestra....Have you used any and noticed any side effects?
