How long can you take Adipex (Phentermine)?
I was told that Adipex won't work for more than a couple of months. My weight loss physcian has not mentioned this. How long should I expect to see results from this med from? Personal experiences with it? Thanks. This is my first post!

I have had a very stressful month, and I have caught myself snacking this month. Only my second month on it. Last month I couldn't MAKE myself want to eat.

Do I need to think about a new med?

A lady in Canada said it's off sale in Canada cause of Breast cancer links. I checked online and didn't find ONE page to do with this.

Re: How long can you take Adipex (Phentermine)?
From what I understand is that this can be taken over long periods of time. Kind of.

It's a controlled substance and can become adictive. So what doctors will do is have you take it for a set amount of time and then stop for a while. Like my situation, my doctor has given me the prescription for two months. Then after that I'll take a few weeks off and if I still need it, I'll go back on it again for another month. BUt you can do this for as long as it takes to lose your weight. I think. sorry not too much help, I know...

I've been on it for 6 weeks, and my hunger is still being controlled and I'm doing fine. Although I don't feel like I've lost lately, my clothes are still getting baggier. So, something must be happening. (I don't have a scale at home to weigh myself...)

Re: How long can you take Adipex (Phentermine)?
I have been on phentermine for about two months. My doctor wants me to stay on it for a total of 6 continuous months. I don't really understand why, but I am not taking it for it appetite supressing ability. He prescribed it to help boost my metabolism until my thyroid levels normalize (I was just diagnosed hypothyroid). For what I have read about it though, it usually isn't recommended to take it for more than two or three months at a time because it losses its effectiveness. It is thought that the hormone that your body releases to tell the brain that you are full becomes depleted after taking phentermine for a long period of time. That is just spectulation, because it seems that they don't really know a lot about how that hormone and phentermine work together. So many doctors will prescribe it for a few months, then take you off for a few months, then start you up again.

Well I just wanted to say that I was the one that said that my Doc here in Canada was the one that told me that they took phentermine off the market because of links with breast cancer as did my pharmasist. I am not sure about any where else in the world but here in Alberta that's the way it is
