Re: how many calories in a home grilled hamburger
I will have to try Bison sometime! Everyone always says it's tasty and healthier!!
I use lean ground sirloin and after adding a bun, a quarter pounder burger with healthy toppings (tomato, lettuce, pickle- no mayo or anything like that) has about 300 calories. Some of the fat drips out as you grill them, so that may take off even more. It all depends on the bread, how lean the meat is, etc. When I want to cut back on the calories, I make miniature 1/9 pound burgers on a mini bun. I'll eat one or two, and it's slightly less calories for two of those since there's a little less meat. Turkey burgers are another option, but in my opinion, NO substitute if you are craving a real burger!
I find that a lean homemade grilled burger is much healthier AND tastier than eating one at a restaurant or fast food place. I also like to bake sweet potatoes cut into strips for some healthy "fries." This makes a pretty good meal!
