    Unexplained Weight Loss

A month ago I moved to the US from the UK. My weight has always been pretty stable, but since moving here I've lost 5 pounds.

I have had a less active lifestyle since moving here as I don't have transport so rely on my in laws. So I haven't been out as much. But I do take the dogs for a walk etc.

Could my weight loss be muscle loss? I certainly haven't eaten less (more, if anything). But I have had chronic constipation since moving here and have been taking stool softeners and Senokot (with only slight results). Also, my last period was a lot less than usual (only 2 days and fairly light).

I don't have very good health insurance yet to check with a doctor.

Does anyone know what could be causing it? I'm worried it's something serious but the timing of moving here make me hope it's environmental somehow.

    Thanks in advance.

Unexplained weight loss usually needs to be discussed with your Doctor

Thanks for your reply. As it happened at the exact time that my lifestyle changed, could it be due to muscle mass loss do you think?
I can't afford to go to a doctor right now as I'm not eligible for work here yet.

I think it's just the change in environment and types of food. What makes you think you have lost muscle mass? That's easy to work on. I guess I'm confused by your statements. At any rate, 5 pounds isn't that much.

    Re: Unexplained Weight Loss

Oh just because I would have expected to gain weight, if anything, as I've been so inactive since moving here and eating the same amount, if not more. 5 pounds is a lot for me in a month.
