    Polyp on cervix

I am 54 yrs old and my periods are starting to go a bit haywire.
I'm getting brown discharge between periods. My GP sent me for a scan of my uterus. They found some small fibroids and a polyp on my cervix. They have given me an appointment for next Friday to have it removed by Hysteroscopy. I'm scared stiff. What happens in the procedure. What if it isn't a polyp and it's something worse. Has anyone else had this procedure ? If so was it ok ? Or painful ? Thanks.
