    Lichen scelerosis

I wastold by a gynecologist today that I should have a Biopsy for lichen sclelerosis.. here are my symptoms, very painful sex! But one of the main things that has been happening for the last year or so as I keep getting infections that they have been treating me for yeast infections, but when I went in today again for another yeast infection the doctor mentioned Lichen sclerosis and that I should possibly have a biopsy to rule this out. I would love to hear from any of you other ladies that have this problem, and have your input As to your symptoms and also the remedies to help.
    Thanks!

    Dear Scruffy,

If you do have lichen sclerosus you need a biopsy and medical treatment, so please do get tested. It really doesn't matter if anyone else has had it, you need to find out so you can get treatment.

Let us know if you get tested and what you find out.

    Hugs,

    Re: Lichen scelerosis

If you are post menopausal, the loss of estrogen predisposes you to various types of vaginal infections (and even abnormal pap smears). The use of vaginal estrogen reverses atrophy and improves vaginal flora hence reducing the chance of infections. Reversing vaginal atrophy would also make sex more comfortable.

I have read that Lichen Sclerosus (LS) can be difficult to treat but estrogen is oftentimes used along with other medications (corticosteroids for one). I have not experienced vaginal infections but think I would want a biopsy to know for sure if I had LS versus something else that is probably easier to treat.

Please keep us posted on what you find out. I hope you can get answers and relief!
