Concerned about ultrasound and odd cycle - opinions and perspective please.

    Hello everyone,

I'm sorry to post this question, as I'm sure you've had to answer these concerns before.

I am 49, and bloodwork doesn't show I am going through menopause. My mom did at 50. I am 49, soon to be 50 (month).

I have always had regular periods from age of 14 - present. Last month two weeks into my period I had some water/blood upon going to use the bathroom. I called local gyn (I've never had a bad pap smear, and just had another clear one and hpv test). She gave me an ultrasound. She is known for pulling trigger on biopsy for everything.

    My ultrasound said:
    ______
Uterus present anteveredno uterine masses seen. Endometrium thickness - 10-11mm. (I got my period the next week - normal size for that time in cycle?) Homogeneous structure containing a few cystic spaces within the lininig measuring 1.4 cm.(what is this??) then... blood flow visualized in structure.
Cervix normal. No fluid. Right ovary normal. Very small homogeneous structure within ovary measuring .35 cm. No masses seen.
Left ovary had a complex cyst meausuring 2.6 cm. No masses seen.
    _____

I went into the exam room, and was immediately pounced on by nurse pract. to perform a biopsy of lining and polyp (even though polyp wasn't mentioned on ultrasound report). I knew enough to ask a lot of questions before an invasive test. One was "if I am about to get my period next week - isn't my lining size normal" (I read it can be up to 16mm right when you start period) and then I asked about the polyp. She scared me to death and started discussing uterine cancer being the "best one to get" if I had it. Or it could be hormonal. I decided to get my things and leave, and get a second opinion by a very experienced OB. I saw her and she said nothing on the report was alarming, and scheduled an ultrasound with sonohystogram to see if in fact there was anything there. Also echoed thoughts on the lining that I had. This sono happens at end of month. So I wait.....which stinks.

I am still spotting/brownish mostly and crampy.

I cannot concentrate and very worried.

Can anyone give me perspective or experience from a patient standpoint? Or even a medical standpoint that is measured?

Sorry you went thru this. Sounds like the second gyno is more reasonable. My only comment otherwise is that brown blood is blood that wasn't expelled in a previous period so is perfectly normal.
