Unhappy Bartholin's Gland Mess

I'm very frusterated right now. I'm wondering what I should do and if I'm getting the right kind of care. I had my Bartholin's gland removed two months ago, and yet it seems to be back. Here is the history:

On Christmas Day, 2002...well, that was the last day that I remember having pain-free genitallia. I got a raging bladder infection. I was peeing blood. When that cleared up, I got a golf-ball-sized swelling on my labia, near my urethra. It was very painful - I couldn't walk. I made it in to my obgyn and she lanced the infection. It drained and all was well for about a week. Then, on the same side, my Bartholin's gland became inflamed.

The Bartholin's gland swelling went away on it's own and stayed away for about a month. Then, it came back and stayed until June when I had it removed. The swelling extended far beyond the Bartholin's area. When the gland was removed, my doctor had to cut all the way back to near my clitoris to remove the whole thing. Recovery was very painful. Everything in my crotch was black and blue. It took about a month before I could use toilet paper.

And things just didn't feel right... I convinced myself that it would just take time to heal. The pain was both in the Bartholin's area and around the outer ridge of my labia - pretty far from the incision as far as I could tell.

Then, this weekend, I went for a bike ride to a friend's house. When I got there, I checked out a twinge and found that I had a gumball-sized swelling in the Bartholin's area. It felt (I'm kind of an expert by this time...) like it was going to eventually pop. I rode my bike back home, and by the time I got home, it had indeed burst. I soaked it and called the doctor this morning. I have an appointment tomorrow.

I guess that first, I wanted to vent. Second, I want to know how common this is. Is it likely that I have a bunch of lose tendrils floating around, waiting to rupture? My gland was greatly spread out - could it be impossible to remove?

The other thing is that, as a result of the surgery, I have an extra vaginal lip. I guess the gland was so big that I grew skin (near my clitoris) to go over it. When the gland was removed, the skin made an extra fold. It is weird and tough to keep clean. My doctor didn't want to remove it during the surgery because she thought it might compromise sensation. I kind of want it gone. Should I insist (assuming I'm going under the knife again anyway) or do I not know what I'm getting myself into?

Thanks to anyone who made it through this saga! I'll try to focus on work now. At first, it didn't hurt so bad this time, but now my whole vulva is getting sensitive again...

Is there a chance that this was a boil this time that opened up? Let us know what you find out at the docs office tomorrow.
