Post cramps wk before period...on BCP

I've been on BCP Mircette for about a month and a half now. I am experiencing bad cramps (period-like) and spotting regularly (for two days now). My period isn't due for another week. What is going on?! Last month I also experienced spotting a wk before my period came but not such painful cramps! I was put on BCP to ease the pain and reduce my period length (which it did last month)...but at what cost? I spot (& cramp) for an entire wk before my period even gets here.

Any comments/advice would be greatful.

First your doctor should have told you to except side effects during the first THREE MONTHS you are on the pill. Also read your package insert and it will explain many of the side effects.
The reason for three months is that is about how long it takes for your body to get use to the hormones in the birth control. Give it antoher month and half and things should be fine. If not talk to your doctor about switching to something else to see if it works better for you. But remember if you switch it will probably take three months of being on the new one before or if you notice any changes.

blast off is definatly right
although ive been on bc for about a year now and i always get pretty bad cramps a week and a half before my period. so that could just be the way your body handles it, everything should be fine in a couple months

Mircette is a very low dose pill (which i'm on as well). And low does pills can mean lots of spotting and breakthroug bleeding. If you've been experiencing this a lot, you should go to your gyno and ask for a higher dose pill. That will elimiate the breakthrough bleeding and spotting.

I agree with strand3d. I am on a very low does pill (Ovcon 35), and my doc told me that might happen. This is my first month on it, I had to switch from OTCL. You may want to wait out the 3 months see if it goes away. If not they may have to switch you to a higher does pill.
