which oral contraceptive won't cause weight gain?

I want to go on the pill for several reasons including that I am sexually active...however, I just lost a good amount of weight and I've been eating real good and exersing. I am so afraid of gaining weight because of birth control. Is there a type that is not supposed to cause weight gain or is it different with everyone?!! Please help! Thanks

Hi. It is different with everyone, however, the pill Yasmin was made for that reason. It contains a different progesterone that is supposed to cause less water retention or something. I haven't ever tried it, but I have heard about it.

I take Yasmin. I did have a 2 lb weight gain but that could have been from other things. I heard Yasmin was designed with the purpose of getting rid of water retention.. When my peirod came I did not bloat up or anything...

Any thoughts on if changing from Ortho Tri-cyclen to Yasmin would help to lose weight?

Changing to Yasmin would only help you lose weight if the weight you have gained is due to water retention from the use of the OrthoTriCycylen.

I agree that if you are actually on the pill there must be more benefits to being on it than not.

I have read that the average weight gain for adolescents on the pill over the first year is about 5 pounds or 2.5 kg.
For my weight, that would be a lot to gain.
When I started the pill I was underweight and trying to gain weight anyway, so I'm not sure how much I gained from the pill... but from when I started to now (about 2.5 years) I have gained about 11 pounds (5kg).

I just found this on Depo Provera:
Average weight gain is 5.4 lbs the first year, 8.1 lbs after two years, and 13.8 lbs after four years. But this is an average, and for many women weight gain can be extreme as this drug can increase the appetite."
