Unhappy Bad Breath has changed my personality: Part 3

Hey I tried to post in the previous board but its closed. So, here we are.

I wanted to post what hasn't worked for me:

Therabreath- nothing, actually met with doctor Katz and he put me on a heliometer...some machine that reads the level of VSC's in the mouth..it was normal..so he had to take a napkin and run it across my tongue...and took a whiff..His diagnosis "its smells"....duh! I knew that. He gave me some Closlly products...didn't work. Total $180.

Then in 2001...met with another doctor (Dr. Dailey)... he put me on that VSC's machine...but this guy was a real crook because he took down the reading...and didn't tell me what the reading was...He then gave me some products..Trioral and Corsodyl (Trioral I'd used before)...then he put me back on the machine and this time he let me look and the machine and miracliously the VSC's read normal...duh!...they were normal before I used the products. Well anyway Trioral, Corsodyl, didn't work...not even for a day. Total $ 600

    Breath Appeal- didn't work
Primal defense- didn't work used for duration of bottle
    Lemon flush- didn't work
    Digestive enyzmes- didn't work
    vitamins- didn't work
Nasal flushes with salt baking soda and H2O2

What has given me some sorta change
    More water
No meat, increased veggies and Lots of baked fish, and no dairy, and not too much sugar...
    Mega hydrin..very little..but I did notice a change

    My current regmine
Brush with baking soda...one brush for the teeth and one brush for the tongue. Gargle with H2O2. Scrape with a plastic spoon. Floss...and when I have time...i take a toothpick and dig into my tonsils...they bleed soo much I think they are infected.

    godisgood --

so if you have normal VSC's - wouldn't that be consistent with you having normal bacteria "in the mouth"? In fact I would think that is why treatments that supposedly neutralize VSCs don't work for both you and me.

so now i'm confused - i've always thought that my breath is worse simply because i have more VSC content - and i'm convinced that is not the case for you. That is unless Dr. Katz believes normal levels of VSCs yield smelly napkins.

I think you're on to something here - we simply might not be going after the right odors (and their sources)

What does everyone think about this normal VSC reading result?

There must be something more to it than VSCs. The bad taste I have in my mouth seems to originate from the throat. But my ENT said that the cause is probably not in the nose or throat... What I want to do is to have my lungs an breathing passages checked, but my doctor does not want to send me to a lung specialist and if I won't be sent there by my doctor, the insurance company won't cover it. I guess that I'll have to go there on my own...

I really wish something as simple as Therabreath or TriOral would work for me. :0(

The halimeter only reads about 3 or 4 different types of VSC's and does NOT accuately assess oral malodor. There are at least twice as many different types of VSC's than the halimeter reads.

A long as these scamming "doctors" keep peddling the Halimeter as an accurate reader, there will be less incentive to develop a device that can actually read ALL VSC's.

Since a new thread has been started, maybe a short summary of the previous posts could be ok...? I mean these 2 questions:

    1. Is there anyone who has managed to cure?

    2. When did you started suffering of this problem, and how long has it bothered you?

I believe it all began to me when I was about 14... I would not have known, if there hadn't been any comments... So five years have passed with a terrible smell inside my mouth.

My bb started in 1997. The only thing I can think of that could have caused it was I was having a lot of inner ear probs at the time, like I was always on a plane and had to clear my ears. So I went to alot of specialists, and had a lot of treatments done (none of which ever cured it). But I was on a lot of steriod nasal sprays (flonase, etc.), and different antibiotics/perscriptions. So then the bb started and I still haven't gotten rid of it.

Try probiotics use the wafers you desolve in your mouth since thats where all the bad bacteria is thriving.

It's not as simple as that....

My problem started when I was about ten. Almost a whole decade has gone by where I suffer in every way from this awful monster. I even dread going to school and sitting in close proximities with people because I know my breath can be smelled even through my nose. I chew on gum all day. And afterwards, my tongue burns and my jaws ache.

Unlike everyone else, I have never been to a doctor for it. I'm sure it wouldn't even help.

Re: Bad Breath has changed my personality: Part 3

My BB started in 2003, I think it was in the second half of April. I don't know what could have caused it, but during winters I had frequent inflammations of nasopharynx and I also had an accident in PE back then during which my throat got squeezed a bit. I smoked cigarettes and drank beer on fridays, too... I also have since approximately that time chronic pharyngitis. Maybe it is because of the GE reflux? I can't think of any other possible causes right now. But in the April of 2003 when people first complained about the stench and when I was told that my breath does not smell good even though I brushed my teeth in the morning of that day and I had a chewing gum in my mouth... Since then my life has become a real nightmare...

Today 3 (THREE) windows were open because of me. I am seeing my doctor tomorrow and I will push him to send me to a lung specialist... It must be something with the lungs, because the smell from my breath has the property to contaminate a whole room in a matter of seconds... If my lungs and breathing passages are OK, then I'll probably consider the surgical tightening of my esophageal sphincter... All I want to do is to have a normal breath and normal life. Am I asking for too much?!

Re: Bad Breath has changed my personality: Part 3

My BB started when I was 18 - I also don't know what could have caused it. I neither drink, nor smoke, nor do drugs. I had very mild allergies - associated with my golfing.
Even with my mouse closed, the odor is detectable and does cause people to cover mouth, and open windows.

I have never had a cavity, not even on baby teeth; and have naturally white teeth - get compliments from dentists on the care of my teeth, but not the smell. It's funny because the same dentist that when he works on everybody else he won't use a face guard, but when looks at my file, he'll immediately put one on. I've seen a couple dentists from moving to different areas for my work, and each time, nobody seems to care whether they have to put faceguards on, as long as I don't have teeth they can work on to bill me.

Anyways, my primary care physician, also says I am in good shape - aside from concern about lack of activity during my day job. I always ask about whether she could address my problem with BB, but she always says I should see a good dentist. I tell her that the dentists can't find anything wrong, and that the smell can come from the nose too - but she always counters, but i can smell it from your mouth too, making it not likely that it comes from something that a doctor could address.

Anyways, so I just get the runaround. too bad. because i'd pay lots of moolah for a cure.

Re: Bad Breath has changed my personality: Part 3

My BB started about 15 years ago when I was 32. I did not have any health problems. I always had very good oral hygiene (brush twice a day, flossed, two professional teeth cleanings every year). I have tried all of the products mentioned on this board including a few I discovered since I began following this board. I have driven myself crazy trying to remember everything that was going on in my life at that time. The only thing that I can remember is having an ear infection once in my late 20's and once at 31 yrs. Since then no problems with my ears. I have gone to maybe five ENT's including the top doctor in my area they put the scope thru my nose and looked at my sinuses and down my throat and all agree that there is no ENT problem. I

Re: Bad Breath has changed my personality: Part 3

I am new to these forums, but I have read all the posts in the 3 threads about bad breath.

I'm not sure how long I've had bad breath, but it's been at least a year (I'll be 21 soon.) I've been on antibiotics a lot in the past, I have PND (have to swallow a lot), white disgusting coating on my tongue, I always have a bad taste in my mouth, and when I wake up in the morning it feels as though something is burning above my soft palate. I wonder what that could be? In the beginning of December 2004, I had tonsillectomy. This got rid of the nasty tonsil stones, but did not improve my breath. The only time my tongue has cleared up was after a severe diarrhea I had. All I had to eat and drink for 3 days was Coke and blueberry juice. My tongue remained pink for a couple of days, but within a week the yucky crap returned. I ought to fast for a couple of days and see what happens.

I refrain from seeing friends, partying with my co-workers, and I don't meet new people whatsoever. All because of this. What's worse is that I work at a store! I don't think anyone can smell my breath if I hold my breath or keep my mouth shut.

In closure, when I lick/drool all over my arm, my saliva doesn't really smell bad. It used to when I had my tonsils though. The floss doesn't smell, and I don't think my nose contains any malicious odors.

    Aaah! I wanna breathe again!!

Re: Bad Breath has changed my personality: Part 3

    Proteome,

When I had braces, I would often have to visit the orthodontist & dentist every week or two when adjustments were needed.

The aids wore the faceguard as they cleaned my teeth. The orthodontist/dentist would come over at the end and check everything. My breath was (and is) so bad that he would breathe in thrugh his mouth and out of his nose. And the way he did it was so loud. Back then I was in denial about the severity of my breath and just figured that he had the problem, not me.

Would any of you ever settle down with someone who also had bad breath or would it be a deal-breaker for you as it is with 99.9% of everyone with good breath?

Re: Bad Breath has changed my personality: Part 3

It makes me so sad to read all these stories, everyone is living in their own personal hell.

Its also really dis-heartening to read about all the diff methods that are being used to beat this thing, and it seems quite simply.. none of it works!

Can everyone try this simple test and let me know the results.

1st thing in the morning before you put anything in your mouth, get a clear glass, fill with water, work up a spit and spit it into the water.
Leave it for up to an hour and post what happens.
If you are candida free nothing will happen to the spit and it will just disperse and disappear.

Not you Thanatos, i know you are not too sure about my theory.

I am currently on a treatment for candida (threelac) and my tongue is slowly but surely clearing up, i have a better taste in the mouth too...its not cured by a long way but i can tell a difference. Candida can be a nightmare to get rid of so im sure theres a few more months to go yet, but hey something IS happening. So i live in hope.

ps : no i would not like my partner to have BB, least im honest!
