Exclamation Very long time without period, need some reassurance

I'm posting this for my girlfriend and will make it as short as possible.

She is 21 and we have been dating for about 3.5 years now. Earlier today she told me she hasn't had her period in about 6-8 months. She isn't very worried because there have been times in the past where she has gone 2-5 months, maybe a bit longer, without having one. She did tell me before that she didn't have her first period until really late, like around 17 years old.

She was a little overweight when we first started dating and has since put on some more weight. Also she doesn't get much sleep at all due to working late and the fact that she just has a tough time falling asleep. I mean, around 5-7 hours and sometimes even less.

She hates seeing the doctor but promised me she would go in January if nothing happens, but I was searching online and found some really scary information and I'm worried to death. I'm going to try and talk her into seeing the doctor right away but I also want to know if any of you could at least tell me if this sounds "abnormal but healthy" or if it seems dangerous and needs immediate attention. I'm very scared for her.

Thanks in advance

She should see a dr. especially being so young. Actually being overweight can screw up the hormones. Stress and lack of sleep also. I think I read somewhere that when overweight you store more hormones in the fat. (Don't mean to sound rude but can't think of another work that fits) Not sure if correct. Talk to her and explain your concern and ask her to see a dr. It may be nothing bad.

Thank you for the fast reply I'll talk to her tomorrow. How serious could this be, though? I know that this could be signs of infertility right, but could it at all be symptoms of something life threatening? I just want an idea of what we could be dealing with.
