Re: VERY irregular periods
I know this can be frustrating. I've had irregular periods since I began menstruating. In my teens, I would go several months or longer without a period. Then, right before I turned 18 years old, I began having heavier periods and although the duration was never longer than 4-5 days, the intense pain for the first day was unbearable. This pain would put me on my knees because I couldn't stand, it hurt that bad.
Anyhow, after I turned 22 years old, all of a sudden I stopped having a period for three months and I went to the dr. The dr. put me on birth control and it helped, I started having periods again. After 6 months, I stopped taking birth control and the problem came back. I went three months without a period so I began taking birth control again.
My dr. diagnosed me with PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome).
That was almost 9 years ago. I am still on birth control, however, I've had 2 periods in the last year.
You might want to have your dr. do labs to check for PCOS. They will test your estrogen, testosterone, androgen, FSH, LSH, etc. levels.
You may also want to get checked for Insulin Resistance - Glucose intolerance.
Studies have shown that women with PCOS are also suffering from the above.
If you've ever had problem with diet, i.e. weight loss, etc. This could be why.
I'm currently taking Yaz (birth control) and Metformin for the insulin resistance.
Hope this helps.
